spinoff seemed inevitable In 1974 Rhoda was dispatched from Minneapolis back home to New York City where she was reunited with her parents and younger sister in a new sitcom that costarred Nancy Walker Harold Gould and Julie Kavner She also met and fell in love with the hunky owner of a demolition firm The premiere of “Rhoda” that September was the week’s top-rated show getting a 42 percent share of audience against competition including Monday Night Football on ABC And a few weeks later when Rhoda and her fiance Joe were wed in a one-hour special episode more than 52 million people — half of the US viewing audience — tuned in But “Rhoda” couldn’t maintain those comic or popular heights A domesticated lucky-in-love Rhoda wasn’t a funny Rhoda By the end of the third season the writers had taken a desperate step: Rhoda divorced Joe Thus had Rhoda and Harper defied a third CBS taboo The series ended in 1978 with Harper having played Rhoda for a total of nine seasons She had captured the character by studying her Italian stepmother But Harper’s own ethnicity — neither Jewish nor Italian — was summed up in a New York Times profile as “an exotic mixture of Golda Harper later starred in a film version of “Golda’s Balcony” the long-running off-Broadway play in which she portrayed Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir at the end of her life Harper brought the movie to Israel for the 2007 Eilat Film Festival where she called “the creation of this state one of the crowning achievements of the 20th century” Harper also recalled her first visit to Israel in 1976 at the a peripatetic sales executive she spent her early years in Oregon Michigan and California before settling in Jersey City New Jersey By high school she was taking dance lessons in Manhattan several times a week By age 15 she was dancing specialty numbers at Radio City Music Hall By 18 she was in the chorus of the Broadway musical “Li’l Abner” then appeared in the film adaptation one year later She also danced in the musicals “Take Me Along” starring Jackie Gleason and “Wildcat” starring Lucille Ball She found comedy when she fell in with a group of Second City players from Chicago who had taken up residence in Greenwich Village One of these improv players was Richard Schaal whom she wed in 1964 They divorced in 1978 Harper and Schaal moved to Los Angeles in 1968 Two years later in a theater production she was spotted by a casting agent for the role of Rhoda During “The Mary Tyler Moore” Harper appeared in her first major film the comedy “Freebie and the Bean” and later was cast in “Blame It on Rio” and an adaptation of Neil Simon’s play “Chapter Two” In 1986 she returned to series TV with a family sitcom called “Valerie” While not matching her past critical successes the show proved popular But in the summer of 1987 Harper and her manager Tony Cacciotti whom she had married a few months earlier were embroiled in a highly publicized feud with Lorimar Telepictures the show’s production company and its network NBC In a dispute over salary demands Harper had refused to report for work missing one episode The episode was filmed without her She was back on duty the following week only to be abruptly dumped and replaced by actress Sandy Duncan The show was renamed “Valerie’s Family” and then “The Hogan Family” Meanwhile lawsuits and countersuits flew In September woman she played In recent years her appearances were mostly limited to voice work on the animated shows “The Simpsons” and “American Dad” But for years Harper’s appearances had been mostly in the occasional stage and guest-star TV role Then in 2013 she was back in the news and all over TV when she revealed that just a few weeks earlier she was diagnosed with brain cancer This rare condition leptomeningeal carcinomatosis occurs when cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain She had battled lung cancer in 2009 Harper said she had been told by her doctors she had as little as three months to live Fans responded as if a family member were in peril But while the diagnosis might have seemed like a death sentence “I’m not dying until I do” Harper said in a TV was being developed its producers were battling a four-point decree from the network which insisted that the nation’s TV viewers would not accept series characters who were 1 divorced 2 from New York 3 Jewish or 4 have mustaches The producers lost on having Mary Richards divorced instead she had been dumped by her long-time boyfriend But with Rhoda they overrode the network on two other counts The show that resulted was a groundbreaking hit with comically relatable Rhoda one big reason Item: “What am I I’m not married I’m not engaged I’m not even pinned I bet Hallmark doesn’t even have a card for me!” Item: “I came to Minneapolis because of the cold I figured if I was frozen I’d keep better” “Women really identified with Rhoda because her problems and fears were theirs” Harper theorized in her book “Despite the fact that she was the butt of most of her own jokes so to speak … her confident swagger masked her insecurity Rhoda never gave up” Neither did Harper who confronted her own titles where she was reunited with her parents and younger sister in a new sitcom that costarred Nancy Walker Harold Gould and Julie Kavner She also met and fell in love with the hunky owner of a demolition firm The premiere of “Rhoda” that September was the week’s top-rated show getting a 42 share of audience against competition including Monday Night Football on ABC And a few weeks later when Rhoda and her fiance Joe were wed in a one-hour special episode more than 52 million people — half of the US viewing audience — tuned in But “Rhoda” couldn’t maintain those comic or popular heights A domesticated lucky-in-love Rhoda wasn’t a funny Rhoda — not the Rhoda who could claim “I had a bad puberty It lasted 17 years” not the Rhoda who before a date had been hungry but refused to eat explaining “I’ve got to lose 10 pounds by 8:30” By the end of the third season the show’s writers had taken a desperate step to shake things up: Rhoda divorced Joe Thus had Rhoda and Harper defied a third CBS taboo The series ended in 1978 with Harper having played Rhoda for a total of nine seasons She had captured the character by studying her Italian stepmother But Harper’s own ethnicity — French/German project that served the very first trains to run from the Holy City to the coast and back And while the trip took nearly four hours to complete the railroad’s opening was a cause for celebration According to a contemporary newspaper called HaOr the light there were “masses of people on Emek Refaim a street nearby… Jews Arabs Greeks Europeans Asians… carriages running back and and the dormitory of the girls’ school across the road During the War of Independence and later the Six-Day War the beautiful structure was ravaged by bullets and partially destroyed In 1976 when artist Arik Kilemnik purchased the building for the non-profit Jerusalem Print Workshop it was unsafe and in terrible shape Kilemnik explains that there is a long tradition of printing in the Land of Israel — and he wanted that tradition to continue Therefore the non-profit invites local and international artists to create prints and artists’ books financing the entire creative process They even have the use of old printing machines — including the historical machine built in 1854 in Italy on which Moshe Yoel Salomon published the first Hebrew-Language newspaper in the country the Levanon Artists’s creations are exhibited in the JPW’s two galleries — enhanced by the arched interior of the building At the moment a Scottish printer Stuart Duffin is showing works that combine etching and Mezzotint and mainly feature Jerusalem A second gallery displays prints from a group of artists using a wide variety of techniques If you visit look on one of the original doors for a very unusual handle Beit Davidoff Located northwest of the ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighborhood the Bukhara Quarter was established in 1891 by wealthy immigrants from Bukhara a city in the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan It was to have spacious homes on tree-lined boulevards with main roads a generous width of 105 meters and side streets five meters wide A traditional bunch they called their neighborhood Rehovot wide spaces after a well dug by Isaac in the Valley of Gerar: “He named it Rehovot saying ‘Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land’” Genesis 26:22 Very little is left of the original neighborhood today as most of the elegant buildings have been torn down or are in ruins Descendants of the original residents moved out and have been replaced almost entirely by Haredim Even some of the street names have changed perhaps unofficially On our last visit we learned that Rehovot Habukharim Street has become David Street However at least one jewel of a dwelling remains in the neighborhood Built by Joseph Davidoff in 1914 Street it is reputed to be a copy of his elegant family home in Bukhara We know it as Beit Davidoff Windows are lined by mini-columns and topped by beautifully carved gables The exterior boasts floral patterns and an unusual gutter pipe made of stone instead of tin A pattern of asymmetrical windows and Stars of David decorate this fabulous building which was the home of Jerusalem’s first Hebrew High School in the 1920s Most unusual is its double red-tiled roof which rises above the building After being neglected for decades Beit Davidoff was restored as the Moksel Center where ethnic handicrafts were faithfully preserved Today it houses the Geula Bukarim Community Center and serves 55000 area haredi residents An excellent permanent exhibit inside the building tells the history of this and adjacent neighborhoods The Pa’am for “in the past” Visitors’ Center offers a variety of guided tours as well as headphones and maps for audio tours of the Bukharan neighborhood Bridges for Peace Less than two kilometers away the lovely edifice at 7 Shmuel Adler Street was built by the Royal Ethiopian family at the very beginning of the 20th century It may have been meant as a winter palace for the Queen but later was turned into apartments whose rent would lighten the burden of poverty-stricken Christian Ethiopians in Jerusalem In 1999 the building was rented to a Christian non-profit called Bridges for Peace and today serves as the organization’s international headquarters Bridges for Peace was founded in 1976 by Dr G Douglas Young who had earlier established the Institute for Holy Land Studies on Mount Zion today the Jerusalem University College According to CEO Rebecca Brimmer Bridges for Peace strives to provide Christians all over the world with a new perspective on Israel “Most people outside of Israel only know what they read or see in the media” she explains “They haven’t been here they don’t know any Israelis and may even never have met a Jew Positive news never makes it past the borders of this country” Bridges for Peace raises its funds through offices in nine countries all over the world in each of which it distributes a lively pro-Israel magazine The organization is responsible for bringing thousands of tourists to the country each year and working with nearly two dozen Israeli municipalities and local councils provides food banks for Israelis in need In addition each year 400 Israeli schoolchildren have their educations — from lunches to supplies to field trips — completely “The October Revolution was not what you call in America the ‘Russian Revolution It was an invasion and conquest over the Russian people More of my country men suffered horrific crimes at their bloodstained hands than any people or nation in the entirety of human history It cannot be overstated Bolshevism committed the greatest human slaughter of all time The fact that most of the world is ignorant and uncaring about this enormous crime is proof that the global media is in the hands of the perpetrators”1 Here Solzhenitsyn is implicitly squaring off with the entire Holocaust establishment which posits the historically risible claim that the Holocaust is unique This doctrine simply states that nothing in the history of mankind can be compared to the Holocaust The late Jewish scholar Jacob Neusner declared that “the Holocaust…was unique without parallel in human history”2 Daniel Goldhagen made similar claims in his book Hitler’s Willing Executioners a completely fraudulent piece of propaganda that has been widely discarded and debunked by competent scholars3 French Jewish historian Pierre Vidal-Naquet espoused similar views4 Many Jewish writers indirectly advocate this form of doctrine in one way or another For Deborah Lipstadt downplaying the “uniqueness” of the Holocaust is to be a Holocaust denier5 German historian Ernst Nolte made the mistake of comparing the Holocaust to other crimes that have committed in history such as Stalin’s extermination of the Russian people the Armenian genocide and Pol Pot’s crimes against humanity For this Lipstadt labeled him a Holocaust denier Historian Joachim Fest defended Nolte on historical and rational grounds and received the same treatment6 Some Jewish historians however does not subscribe to this view Israeli historian Yehuda Bauer while declaring that the Holocaust is an important chapter in human history and that “the depth of pain and suffering of Holocaust victims is difficult to describe” admits that “the Holocaust is certainly not unique because ‘indescribable’ human suffering is forever there and is forever being described”7 What we are saying here is that the “uniqueness” doctrine is an ideology one that has no foundation in historical scholarship but only exists in the minds of people like Lipstadt It is maintained not because it is intellectually and morally satisfying and historically plausible but because it seeks to preserve certain ideological inaccuracies Paul Hollander a Jewish scholar and writer who fled his native Hungary because of political persecution subscribes to the same ideology declaring that the Nazis should never be compared with the Soviets on “moral equivalence” because among other things “Communist regimes unlike the Nazis did not seek to murder children”8 Hollander knows better and here is what he never told his readers By 1937 two years before Hitler came to power Stalin had already starved and executed as many as ten million peasants9 This period in history—from 1929-1937—is known as the Red Holocaust10 By 1938 a total of 97 million perished and from 1939 until 1953 another 9 million lost their lives11 From 1937-1939 Stalin executed 50000 clergymen alone12 Stalin’s terrorism began as early as 1918 when “he ordered the execution of all suspected counter-revolutionaries Stalin burned villages in the countryside to intimidate the peasants and discourage bandit raids on food supplies a decade before he became Red tsar”13 Even after World War II Stalin did not stop terrorizing the peasants14 Minority groups such as the Greeks Germans Turks Orthodox Christians Lithuanians and Vlasovites also fell prey to Stalin’s ethnic cleansing15 There is no way that the “uniqueness” doctrine can square historically with Stalin’s Red Holocaust As Rosefielde notes “Communism is indelibly stained by the Red Holocaust Nonetheless the will to deny blur soften mitigate and pardon communist high crimes against humanity persists for complex personal partisan academic cultural political and pragmatic reasons”16 According to Rosefielde Stalin was involved in the ethnic cleansing of the peasants by violent means including executions terror and starvation beginning with an attempt in 191717 As he puts it “The peasantry was the Bolsheviks’ first and primary target because it did not fit Lenin’s Marxist paradigm founded on the criminalization of private property business and entrepreneurship”18 We see the same pattern in Communist China where Mao “forcibly collectivized the peasantry”19 In the end Communist China was responsible for the death of at least forty million20 It is clear by now that the “uniqueness” doctrine holds no historical validity Yet by espousing it people like Lipstadt Hollander Neusner and others open themselves up for various cultural interpretations which say that Jewish blood is more important than Gentile blood This harmonizes with Talmudic reasoning and there are examples of rabbis who espouse and even practice that belief system: “Rabbi Yitzhak Ginzburg of Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus/Shechem after several of his students were remanded on suspicion of murdering a teenage Arab girl: ‘Jewish blood is not the same as the blood of a goy’ Rabbi Ido Elba: ‘According to the Torah we are in a situation of pikuah nefesh saving a life in time of war and in such a situation one may kill any Gentile’”21 On another occasion the rabbi declared “If every single cell in a Jewish body entails divinity and is thus part of God then every strand of DNA is a part of God Therefore something is special about Jewish DNA…If a Jew needs a liver can he take the liver of an innocent non-Jew to save him The Torah would probably permit that Jewish life has an infinite value There is something more holy and unique about Jewish life than about non-Jewish life”22 Historically and intellectually this “uniqueness” doctrine is an abomination and even Jewish author and journalist D D Guttenplan thinks that the argument works against those who promote it But ideologically it is useful since it puts Jewish suffering above any other suffering in human history giving Jews a power no other ethnic group has If you don’t think that this ideologically is intellectually crippling academe then consider this When noted historian Norman Davies challenged the accepted views of both the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Poland and the Stalinist regime in Soviet Union he was ultimately denied tenure at Stanford University His accusers were mainly Jewish historians Lucy S Dawidowicz and Abraham Brumberg A Stanford University article reads: “Davies’s works have been criticized at Stanford and elsewhere by such experts as Lucy S Dawidowicz author of The War Against the Jews: 1933-1945 who said they felt Davies minimized historic anti-Semitism in Poland and tended to blame Polish Jews for their fate in the Holocaust Davies’ supporters contend that Poles suffered as much as Jews did in the war and could have done very little to save any of the 3 million Jews living in Poland at the time of the Nazi invasion in 1939 Davies had sought 3 million in damages from the university for what he called fraud misrepresentation breach of contract discrimination and defamation”23 Davies eventually moved to England where he taught history at the University of London and later became a fellow at Oxford Davies is not an obscure historian His scholarly works include God’s Playground: A History of Poland in two volumes Europe: A History No Simple Victory: World War II in Europe 1939-1945 and Heart of Europe: The Past in Poland’s Present Yet in 2005 Davies dropped a historical bomb that has devastated the Holocaust establishment writing a sharp critique of both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany which was published by the Sunday Times Davies like many other historians demolishes the “uniqueness” doctrine This particular thesis has no moral or ethical value other than to pursue ideological and political interests It is not about historical truth but about pursuing or preserving a completely false premise that has no factual foundation—only those who need the Holocaust to be unique consider it so and will fight to the death to protect it This became clear in 2011 when “Jewish leaders and political groups in Germany condemned a proposed national day of remembrance for the 12 million ethnic Germans expelled from Eastern Europe after World War II”154 The Black Book of Communism tells us that Communism is responsible for taking the lives of approximately one hundred million people24 So can the Holocaust establishment truthfully document that the Holocaust is unique No In that sense Alexander Solzhenitsyn has a point He was brave enough to point out who was behind the Russian invasion This is one reason why Jewish historians like Richard Pipes do not like Solzhenitsyn that much If Solzhenitsyn is right then Pipes’ book The Russian Revolution could have easily been put under the label: The Jewish Revolution in Russia A few years before Solzhenitsyn’s death in August 2008 Pipes attacked him in print Regarding Solzhenitsyn’s Deux Siecles Ensembles: Juifs et Russes avant la Revolution “Two Hundred Years Together: Jews and Russians before the Revolution” which has only been published in France because no publisher will print it in the English-speaking world Pipes has nothing good to say about the book other than that it was “something more than a personal statement yet less than a work of scholarship” Not only that he stated that the charge of anti-Semitism leveled against Solzhenitsyn “was not entirely unmerited”25 based largely on how Solzhenitsyn treated the Jewish characters in his novels As a well-known historian Pipes should know better to characterize a man such as Solzhenitsyn as an anti-Semite bears no resemblance to true and honest scholarship whatsoever Unfortunately this charge would certainly stop certain individuals from reading Deux Siecles Ensembles for themselves simply dismissing it as the work of an anti-Semite The simple fact is that Solzhenitsyn’s observations about Jews during the Russian Revolution have been confirmed even by Jews Ginsberg writes “In Communist Russia Jews commanded powerful instruments of terror and repression”26 Jewish historian Yuri Slezkine entitles his book The Jewish Century and describes Jews in the twentieth century as iconoclasts who participated in many revolutions mainly the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia27 There is nothing in Solzhenitsyn’s writings to suggest that he was against the Jews as a people He even proposes “patient mutual comprehension” between Russians and Russian Jews in the hope that this would open “mutually agreeable and fruitful pathways for the future development of Russian-Jewish relations”28 What he disagreed with as he clearly states was the ideological basis of Judaism—“not in the racial sense but in the sense of the Jewry as a certain worldview”29 Solzhenitsyn was convinced that the simple step of a courageous man is not to deliberately and consciously take part in a lie As a committed Christian he could not stay silent about what was happening in Russia The torture and crime against humanity in the Soviet Union after 1917 was so horrible that Solzhenitsyn was obliged to write that both Jews and Russians would have to answer not to other people but to their own consciences and to God In an interview with the German magazine Spiegel Solzhenitsyn was asked “Your recent two-volume work 200 Years Together was an attempt to overcome a taboo against discussing the common history of Russians and Jews These two volumes have provoked mainly perplexity in the West You say the Jews are the leading force of global capital and they are among the foremost destroyers of the bourgeoisie Are we to conclude from your rich array of sources that the Jews carry more responsibility than others for the failed Soviet experiment” Without hesitation he responded: “I avoid exactly that which your question implies: I do not call for any sort of scorekeeping or comparisons between the moral responsibility of one people or another moreover I completely exclude the notion of responsibility of one nation towards another All I am calling for is self-reflection “You can get the answer to your question from the book itself: ‘Every people must answer morally for all of its past—including that past which is shameful Answer by what means By attempting to comprehend: How could such a thing have been allowed Where in all this is our error And could it happen again “It is in that spirit specifically that it would behoove the Jewish people to answer both for the revolutionary cutthroats and the ranks willing to serve them Not to answer before other peoples but to oneself to one’s consciousness and before God Just as we Russians must answer—for the pogroms for those merciless arsonist peasants for those crazed revolutionary soldiers for those savage sailors’”30 Again Solzhenitsyn did not close his eyes in order to avoid witnessing what was happening in Russia He asked the Jews who took part in the revolution and “in the ideological guidance of a huge country down a false path” to accept “moral responsibility” for their actions31 Have they accepted moral responsibility Of course not In fact no major publisher has taken the challenge to translate Solzhenitsyn’s Two Hundred Years Together So Duke is right in saying that the secret behind Communism “is rarely spoken about in either the mainstream press or in mainstream media…There is no historical dispute that Communist regimes killed many times more innocents than any other government in history including Hitler’s Germany”32 Duke moves on to make a very good point by saying that perpetrators of the Communist regimes have never been put on trial precisely because these people “have been shielded by their tribal brethren who now identify with Zionism who have an inordinate influence on media academia and governments”33 This is not an anti-Semitic statement precisely because we have numerous evidence and scholarly sources that back up the claim For example Richard Pipes’ son Daniel has been a flaming Neocon and was pushing for complete annihilation of the Assad government Back in 2013 Pipes unequivocally wrote: “Western governments should respond by helping the rebels to prevent Assad from crushing them”34 Pipes moved on to expand and expound on his essentially Talmudic thesis this way: “the West should prevent either side in the civil war from emerging victorious by helping whichever side is losing so as to prolong their conflict’”35 If you did not catch that wicked and quite frankly diabolical ideology here is the translation: let Assad and the Syrian terrorists fight until they destroy each other Let them fight until blood flows from all over Syria It doesn’t matter how long it takes or how much it would cost America and the Middle East the West should give his last drop of blood to support that hellish plan Let mothers and decent civilians weep and mourn for their children and love ones and their cherished country Pipes only cares about Israel Does Pipes know that his plan is essentially diabolical Well let’s listen to him: “This policy recommendation of ‘helping whichever side is losing’ sounds odd I admit but it is strategic”36 Here Pipes’ moral reasoning was telling him that the plan was wicked but he seemed to have suppressed his practical reasoning and replaced it with Talmudic mores Pipes had more interesting things to say He believes that Syrian refugees—people whose livelihood has been literally destroyed by the Syrian conflict—“should be allowed and encouraged to remain within their own cultural zone where they most readily fit in can best stay true to their traditions least disrupt the host society and from whence they might most easily return home”37 Keep in mind that this was a time where more than half of the hospitals were either destroyed or damaged38 So if civilians get hurt when they try get out of their property they just have to die since there are not enough medical supplies Put simply Pipes is trying to simultaneously and effortlessly kill four birds Assad the Syrian terrorists the Syrian civilians and the small minority of Christians with one Zionist stone Of course to accomplish such a feat the cannot do it alone They have to use a large number of the goyim and the American taxpayer’s dollars So the logic is pretty clear here: the Bolshevik movement got morphed into the Neoconservative ideology and that movement is allying with the Israeli regime which perpetually promote ethnic cleansing in the Middle East and elsewhere At the same time the Holocaust establishment continues to whine and moan that they are the victims and not the oppressors Duke puts it well worker whose specialty is the reward pathway and associated neural networks I have shared research on the neuro-chemical effects of cannabis and its effects on neural circuitry There is a saying that “a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing” and it appears that this saying can be applied to some well-intentioned but profit-driven research Hopefully this document will help explain some confusing data about cannabis and give some guidance on current research and potential roles for the molecular components known as CBD and THC I was prompted to write this primer after watching main-stream media’s coverage of Surgeon General Jerome Adam’s warning regarding cannabis use during pregnancy/nursing and the confused sometimes misleading commentary from the news hosts In order to make informed decisions about how best to interact with cannabis some fundamental understandings need to be shared and their implications need to be explained How does cannabis modulate neural circuitry Cannabis affects the brain in multiple and sometimes contradictory fashion It can be at the same time stimulating and calming and occasionally it is reportedly hallucinogenic and or/panic attack triggering which leads to differing opinions on the safety and efficacy of cannabis as a medicinal or therapeutic tool These multiple effects have prompted researchers to examine potential uses for cannabis as a pain reliever anti-anxiety drug a PTSD treatment anti-cancer and anti-seizure medication to name a few uses under exploration However this long-overdue research due to Schedule 1 membership has led some to misunderstand the concerns associated with clinical medical or recreational use of cannabis The Surgeon General’s warning about cannabis use during pregnancy and nursing is exactly correct It should not be done while the affects can be passed on to the child Human brain circuitry forms over the course of many years and it is generally agreed that the baseline neurotransmitter “soup” known as a state of homeostasis forms until the individual is around 25-years of age While this homeostatic balance is being established chronically or repeatedly modulating the neural circuitry with chemicals can lead to the brain underestimating the amount of dopamine serotonin or GABA neurotransmitters needed for mental and physical well-being These shortages can lead to serious mental conditions such as clinical chronic depression Other serious conditions can occur with chronic use such as elongated neural synapses and I will address those later in this document Multiple researchers have proven that the initial intake of cannabis stimulates or modulates the dopaminergic reward pathway Voruganti Slomk amp Pamela 2001 Nina Urban Mark Slifstein amp Judy Thompson 2012 This stimulation leads to the mildly euphoric effect that is experienced as well as the brief stimulation However since the late 1990’s the “potency” of THC in cannabis has been increased by 300 percent in some cases and this enhanced potency can lead to the expression of increased amounts of dopamine which raises the risk of physical addiction Cannabis use not only modulates the dopaminergic reward pathway but it also has an effect in the nucleus accumbens NAc where it modulates the “expectation of reward” registry as well as “behavioral activation” queues primarily responsibilities or hunter/gatherer imperatives As my research has shown these modulations are responsible for the “calming” effects of cannabis as well as the increased enjoyment experienced by cannabis users during otherwise routine tasks or endeavors From a negative perspective the “calming effect” is also known as “demotivation” or the erasing of behavioral activation imperatives which decreases “responsible” behavior and potentially increases neglect of personal systems Can the calming effect be used to treat anxiety and PTSD The simple answer is “NO!” and the main reason lies in the root cause of anxiety First a definition of anxiety Anxiety is: a feeling of worry nervousness or unease typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome Psychiatry- a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks As you can see anxiety is a temporary mental state brought on by external circumstances and in clinical cases creates behaviors which are subjectively judged excessive or detrimental In many cases a problem with an individual’s systems family friends work organizations and legal institutions is the root cause of anxiety and a clearing of behavioral activation queues can only lead to exacerbation of the causes of anxiety As we all know you cannot drink your problems away and neither can you smoke them away In fact the increased potency of cannabis can in many cases trigger the very same panic attacks that it is suggested cannabis could treat Many so-called “anxiety drugs” such as Xanax have a street value and are themselves drugs of abuse and their use should be temporary and limited as they do nothing to address the root cause of anxiety The last several years has seen an increase in the call for medical marijuana to be prescribed to veterans as a clinical treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD a mental-health issue which can have debilitating effects The severity and symptoms of PTSD can vary wildly among trauma survivors and the clinical treatments usually consist of a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy CBT and medically-assisted treatment MAT One of the most severe symptoms of PTSD is a phenomenon known as a “flashback” with accompanying panic attack and this is a mental event which I suspect is the result of an experiential memory schism created by sensory input which is so traumatizing that processing of the data is halted and “archived/quarantined” to prevent further damage to the psyche Successful integration of these splintered memories is a lengthy process known as Prolonged Exposure Therapy and modulation of this mental state of PTSD should not be complicated by a substance which can trigger panic attacks or whose chemical composition can vary purchase-to-purchase Survivors of traumatic events with PTSD commonly experience a condition known as “hyper-vigilance” or a state of feeling unsafe This condition if chronic can lead to adverse health effects and also has an effect on attention and subsequently learning Children of low socio-economic states SES often experience childhood trauma through dangerous living conditions brought upon by resource deprivation and in many cases hyper-vigilance leads to self-medication and addiction Childhood sexual abuse CSA is another cause of hyper-vigilance and a leading contributor to PTSD It is understandable that the layperson may reason that the “calming” effect of cannabis could be used to modulate hyper-vigilance however the conflicting effects of THC and CBD are a cause for concern as use could trigger a panic attack Hypervigilance is heritable and can be passed on to children as an aid to survival in dangerous environments and my research has shown it to likely be the “addiction gene” that everyone is searching for CBT programs such as Seeking Safety are a less risky proven treatment for PTSD among veterans Can cannabis be used to treat chronic pain or seizures Of course The cannabinoid receptors modulate the pain network and cannabinoid receptors and endocannabinoids are abundant in the periphery nerve endings as well as the brain circuitry The potential uses for CB1 and CB2 receptors are just now being explored and offer many opportunities for research and exploitation Strains of cannabis that are rich in CBD and devoid or low in THC could be helpful in alleviating opioid withdrawal symptoms and potentially less costly than current MAT protocols However any concomitant stimulation of the dopaminergic reward pathway is to be avoided as it is detrimental to the brain circuitry’s return to healthy homeostasis Moreover the side effect of behavioral demotivation would likely be a challenge to recovery from opiate addiction and slow the repairing of the many personal systems that have been devastated by the opioid SUD family legal health This researcher has not made a study of the effects of cannabis in regard to epilepsy and seizure alleviation but the anecdotal research is promising and something that should definitely be studied and explored In summary for hundreds of years cannabis use for both medical and recreational purposes has been a subject of controversy for many reasons some of which can be attributed to financial concerns and research has been discouraged As we continue to navigate these uncharted waters as a culture and society it will serve us well to remember that we have successfully integrated the use of alcohol into our society and it is a poison to every organ in the body and the cause of a progressive destructive disease Cannabis is arguably less destructive and has the potential to be medically more useful than alcohol if one remembers these genuine concerns Chronic use of cannabis will cause neural synapses to elongate or lengthen which I believe is a response to constantly wiping the “expectation of reward” registry in the NAc This registry serves to assign values to items or events that are experienced in life and I believe are passed along to the next generation as a species survival strategy Denying the NAc the ability to keep accurate data could be considered threatening to the survival of humanity and since cannabis accomplishes this without over-stimulating the dopaminergic pathways the reward pathway cannot eliminate this threat through the normal process of neurotransmitter allostasis and instead attempts to separate the receptors from the neurotransmitters With this evidence in mind I once again suggest and encourage the cannabis growing industry to self-regulate before this oversight is imposed upon you and take the step of imposing a limit on the amount of THC that can be present in legal marijuana for medical and recreational use provided you with the startling video of American John Walker being tortured by CIA operative Mike Spann or those sickening pictures of hooded chained and drugged prisoners being herded onto American military aircraft at Kandahar Airport Extraordinary though it may seem these and other horrific images were deliberately leaked to you by members of US Special Forces who had direct control of the areas where the images were produced Considerably concerned by the actions of local CIA operatives and certain illegal orders from Washington members of Special Forces responded by leaking highly sensitive information to the public Do not misunderstand me American and other western Special Forces are not a crowd of harp-playing angels determined to protect the “human rights” of any old Tom Dick or Harry Most members of Special Forces are seriously heavy duty soldiers who go about their business loaded for bear and God help anyone who gets in their way Nor are Special Forces averse to knocking captured members of the enemy around on the battlefield if they believe that the enemy in question has tactical information that might reduce risks to their own unit Many years ago I was stupid enough to volunteer for a “practice interrogation” at the hands of these folk a mistake I remember vividly to this day because the details are etched in my memory The main point to note is that although painful my “practice interrogation” was swift and soon over In a tactical battlefield situation a soldier or airman is only reckoned to have information relevant for about 48 hours after capture because grass roots military folk are never privy to long term strategic planning Thus if a battlefield prisoner hasn’t spilled the beans inside 48 hours chances are there are no useful beans left to spill At that stage Special Forces and other military units ship the captured enemy off to a normal prisoner-of-war facility Put simply soldiers are not “into” extended sensory deprivation and other obscene forms of torture favored by psychiatrists and psychologists working for most of the intelligence agencies and security services Details of this torture and its effects will be provided later in the report but first we need to examine the ways in which the American military in faraway Afghanistan alerted the American public at home by using members of the media as unwitting tools Early on in the “War on Terror” four hundred Taliban prisoners were transported by warlords to a fort outside Mazar-e Sharif in northern Afghanistan The only cameras and long-range shotgun microphones present were in the hands of US Special Forces who used them to film and catch the sound of CIA operative Mike Spann torturing “American Taliban” John Walker Not long after that someone chucked the so-called Taliban a few grenades which they used to stage a revolt against their captors who at that time were gleefully pouring oil on the Taliban prisoners and lighting it with matches A little later the CIA’s Mike Spann was reportedly beaten to death and the survivors of the revolt were shipped off to another prison camp Under normal circumstances the footage and sound captured by Special Forces would be considered as top secret material for Pentagon eyes only especially as this footage showed the CIA torturing a prisoner But these were not normal circumstances A member of the CIA was torturing an American citizen in the presence of “allied” warlords the latter directly responsible for supplying seventy percent of America’s heroin until 1995 UN Estimate So instead of sending the footage off in a diplomatic pouch to the Pentagon Special Forces “lost it” in the immediate vicinity of the Kabul media pack If action had not been taken when it was there is a high probability John Walker would not have survived his “interrogation” by Mike Spann and without the critical video footage you would never have known Walker ever existed Next up we have the equally astonishing footage of so-called Al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners being led hooded chained and medically sedated to an American C17 transport aircraft parked at Kandahar Airport at the dead of night It was this footage in particular that caused such a huge fuss by human rights groups all over the world This is not surprising because without this video footage few people would believe that Americans from the “Land of the Free” would indulge themselves in such barbaric behavior So were members of Special Forces responsible for taking this footage as well No they were not but Special Forces did have complete control of Kandahar Airport meaning that they and only they controlled the flow of people in and out of the Airport proper In this particular case Special Forces “gave the nod” to the media telling them what time to arrive and where to point their cameras in order to get the best shots of the prisoners This activity took place completely outside the US Government chain of command and it was a while before Washington found out what had happened Then US Government officials went ballistic Unable to retrieve the footage from the various news organizations officers nominated personally by Donald Rumsfeld frantically asked members of the media pack to sign an “undertaking” that they would not show the footage until they received permission Too late! By then some of the footage had been transmitted by satellite and had already been shown to a startled and outraged western public on international television The Defense Secretary officials psychiatrists and psychologists in Washington had several valid reasons to be alarmed not least of which was the fact that this footage in isolation proves exactly what sort of torture was and still is intended for these prisoners Military contacts have confirmed that far from being the “very very dangerous” men claimed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld most of the prisoners taken to Cuba are low grade fighters and others ie those most likely to “crack” under sustained cruelty and sign false confessions of the kind needed by Washington to ramp up its flagging “War on Terror” Interrogators have been told the confessions must be ready by September at the latest Exactly how psychological torture will be used to extract the required confessions is explained further down this page but first we have to consider why the US Government needs confessions all At present the US Government is using inference innuendo and outright lies to bolster its ridiculous claim that a bunch of Arab Terrorists were responsible for the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001 story here There has never been any hard evidence to support this wild and inaccurate claim so as usual the US Government is planning one of its more spectacular “Trials by Media” later this year In the dock on 14 October shortly after the first anniversary of the World Trade center attack will be one Zacarius Moussaoui who was arrested on immigration charges on 17 August 2001 nearly a month before the attacks and who has now been charged with “conspiracy” in those attacks The case against Moussaoui is pitifully weak with no hard or even corroborative evidence that he knew what al Qaeda was much less that he was part of the alleged organization In any case how can a man firmly in US custody at the time of the attacks be a suspect In a court nearby will be Richard Colvin Reid the alleged “Shoe Bomber” on American Airlines Flight 63 said to have tried to light his shoe in flight in order to blow up the aircraft The US Government is now trying to invent “links” to al Qaeda the principle claim being that Reid worshipped at the same London Mosque as Moussaoui during late 1998 So what I visited Westminster Abbey the same year as Queen Elizabeth the Second but I never met Her Majesty personally and neither of us are members of the mysterious al Qaeda You can see the way this is going can’t you One creative false link at a time until we have enough creative false links to finally convince a skeptical American public that the official lie of October 2001 should be accepted as the actual truth in October 2002 But the huge problem facing the US Government is that neither Moussaoui or Reid have actually been seen in the company of Osama Bin Laden or even in Afghanistan though we do know the Israelis shipped Reid to Israel for a week aboard one of their very own El Al jets This total absence of any proof that either man was connected to al Qaeda is where the prisoners kidnapped to Cuba finally come into the picture – God help them Before September is out the American Federal Prosecution will have signed confessions which “prove” some of the men held in Cuba personally helped to train Moussaoui and Reid in terrorist techniques with others possibly providing flight instruction bomb making and so on All lies of course but the US Government doesn’t care about that Think about it people think about it! What other possible reason can there be for importing these Afghans and Arabs into Cuba after kidnapping them overseas If they were the “very very dangerous” men claimed by Rumsfeld they would have been left to the tender mercies of the drug-running warlords recently restored to power by the CIA Believe me when I say that justice would then have been incredibly swift incredibly terminal and no drain on the American taxpayer at all To discover exactly how the “disappeared” will be made to “confess” we need to go back in history to the seventies when the British Government made a conscious decision to psychologically torture twelve suspected members of the Irish Republican Army Remember very carefully here that like the prisoners in Cuba those tortured in Ireland had not been convicted of any crime Indeed none had even been charged with a crime Also like the prisoners in Cuba hoods restraints and noise all played a significant part Here are some subjective comments from one of the tortured Irishmen: “Plain-clothes men beside us Four blue bags produced and put over our heads Short of breath because of bag Then released from handcuffs which connected one to the others and hands handcuffed in front individually Then run across field to ‘copter Landed did not know where Lorry backed up to ‘copter Taken out and thrown into back of lorry like a sack of potatoes Lorry smelt of cow dung Driven in lorry for about 100 yards Pulled out of lorry bag still over head marched into some sort of building Stripped naked examined by doctor Bag still over head Put lying on bed and examined Overalls I later discovered put on me taken into room Noise like compressed-air engine in room Very loud deafening “Hands put against wall Legs spread apart Head pulled up by bag and backside pushed in Stayed there for about four hours Could no longer hold up arms Fell down Arms put up again Hands hammered until circulation restored This happened continually for twelve or fourteen hours until I eventually collapsed Thinking how that Paisley had seized power in some way and that I would be executed or tortured to death Started to pray very hard Mouth dried up Couldn’t get moisture in mouth Pulse taken Thought of a youngster who had died at six months old started to pray that God would give me strength that I would not go insane Fell down several times more Slapped back up again This must have gone on for two or three days I lost track of time No sleep No food Knew I had gone unconscious several times but did not know for how long One time I thought or imagined I had died…” Dr O’Malley was the first medical man to see any of the men who had undergone the SD sensory deprivation torture He saw two of the original twelve men in Crumlin Road jail sixteen days after their ordeal and one other somewhat later He estimated that all three had developed a psychosis within the first day of interrogation “The psychosis consisted of loss of sense of time perceptual disturbances leading to visual and auditory hallucinations profound apprehension and depression and delusional beliefs – eg hearing Paisley A Protestant Minister lead an evangelical choir intent on slaughtering Catholics” Of the three men O’Malley gave as his opinion that one would recover completely one would possibly recover but the process would be lengthy and one was in need of urgent psychiatric assistance if he was to make a full recovery Despite the doctor’s recommendations nothing was done and all were subsequently moved from Crumlin jail to Long Kesh an internment camp In his book “The Guinea Pigs” 1974 author John McGuffin goes a long way towards explaining exactly how this type of psychological torture works “Sensory deprivation SD refers literally to the artificial deprivation of the senses – auditory visual tactile and kinesthetic In connection with the Northern Ireland ‘guineapigs’ it meant 1 hooding prisoners prior to their interrogation 2 constant use of a sound machine which produces white noise’ a high pitched hissing mushy sound 3 long periods of immobilization being forced to lean against a wall legs wide apart with only the fingertips touching the wall 4 little or no food or drink and 5 being forced to wear loose overalls several sizes too big In addition 6 prisoners were deprived of sleep for days on end while not technically SD this accentuates the process “There is a purpose behind all these actions Measures 1 2 3 and 5 cause visual auditory kinesthetic and tactile deprivation while measures 4 and 6 deprive the brain of oxygen and sugar necessary for normal functioning In addition measures 1 4 and 6 may disturb the normal body metabolism Hooding causes an imbalance in the ratio of oxygen to carbon dioxide in the air breathed and this causes mental confusion The wall-standing which is deliberately made to sound so innocuous by apologists like Sir Edmund Compton is extremely painful – especially when accompanied by beatings – and causes in addition to fatigue and swollen wrists and ankles poor circulation of the blood which leads to a reduced supply of oxygen and sugar to the brain The restricted and in some cases almost non-existent diet was also sugar-free Storr has pointed out that the brain needs three things if it is to function efficiently: sensory stimulation sugar and oxygen” The Irish Government later made a formal complaint to the European Commission for Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights The Commission found Britain guilty of torture Where the prisoners in Cuba are concerned the US Government is already guilty on more than a single count In 1975 the United Nations defined torture as “any act by which severe pain or suffering whether physical or mental is intentionally inflicted by or at the instigation of a public official on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or confession punishing him for an act he has committed or intimidating him or other persons… Torture constitutes an aggravated and deliberate form of cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” The US Government’s use of isolation units in Cuba breaks two United Nations Covenants against Torture and the UN Covenant for the Treatment of Prisoners both of which the United States has signed By now most readers will appreciate the incredibly awkward position Special Forces placed the US Government in when it allowed the prisoners to be filmed boarding the C17 Transport at Kandahar Airport and leaked details about the sedatives administered to them Here was almost a carbon copy of the torture conducted in Northern Ireland: The same hoods the same restraints and 30 hours or more of high pitched aircraft noise on the way to Cuba substituting for the “White Noise” used by British security psychiatrists and psychologists Though detailed information about the psychological torture in Northern Ireland has largely receded into the back rooms of Irish pubs and remote corners of the Internet the US Government is very aware that back in the seventies the British Government faced an avalanche of adverse publicity Hated though the IRA was in many quarters there was no excuse for this shocking use of psychological torture against mere suspects of terrorism – some of them only teenagers No doubt in the fullness of time the US Government will face its own avalanche of adverse publicity which will be richly deserved In judging its progress to date where the “War on Terror” is concerned it seems likely that Washington been transferred to Cuba represent … they have been trained to be terrorists and to act in accordance with the objectives of al Qaeda That makes them about as dangerous as a person can be in modern times” Trained By whom when where and what are the charges Apparently in their “Queens Counsel 101” courses Australian law schools neglect to mention the need for evidence The prisoners kidnapped and flown under strict sensory deprivation conditions to Cuba where they are now housed in diminutive cages open to the elements are not dangerous persons at all More dangerous by far are politicians of any nation who try to invent fictional “terrorists” in order to further their own political careers or other ambitions and others who cite the conveniently invented “terrorists” to force additional Draconian controls over ordinary members of the public It seems likely that David Hicks will be released into Australian custody sometime during the next few months in order to be tried on some trumped-up charge around October 2002 the same time as the mammoth “Trial by Media” of Moussaoui and Reid in America Combined with other trials in countries including Great Britain the last quarter of 2002 promises to break all records for pure media hype and social engineering Regardless of what Australia or other obsequious countries might say or do now or in the future where the Afghan prisoners are concerned the US Government is acting specifically “in the name of the American people” Many Americans are of Irish descent and many took deep offence to British behavior in Northern Ireland There is no credible reason to believe that American citizens in general will condone Rumsfeld’s torture of the Afghans simply because they are “not Irish” nor because they are Muslims rather than Catholics or Protestants Perhaps mos t important of all the US Government is forcing members of the US military to behave in ways which offend their rigid training and discipline It is perfectly alright to shoot a man dead in combat if he is shooting at you and it is perfectly alright to wound a man in combat if he is trying to wound you On the flip side of the coin torturing suspects for purely political reasons is not alright under any military code ever written and it seems likely there will be more “breaches of discipline” if the United States Government is not very careful in the future
