year as UK Labour smashed in election December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ LONDON AP —The Labour Party’s crushing defeat at the hands of turned-off voters will bring the left-wing party a new leader — ending Jeremy Corbyn’s unsuccessful reign — and give it an urgent task: To recover the allegiance of its core working class voters Traditional Labour voters in the north and central parts of England deserted the party in droves allowing Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservatives — for decades seen by Labour backers as the anti-union party of the London elite — to make unprecedented gains Johnson’s clarion call to “get Brexit done” proved more appealing than Corbyn’s two-pronged approach which raised the prospect of yet more delay in the already slow Brexit process Get The Times of Israel’s Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories Free Sign Up It will fall to a new leader to come up with a strategy that might bring the party back to power or at least restore it as a credible opposition force Corbyn said Friday he will not lead Labour into another general election but resisted calls to step down immediately He later said an internal election to choose a new party leader to replace him will take place early next year and that he will step down then Corbyn’s party did relatively well in the 2017 vote depriving Theresa May of a majority in Parliament but imploded in Thursday’s election Corbyn was bedeviled by concerns about his fuzzy Brexit policy the cost of the party’s ambitious social plans and worries about tolerance of anti-Semitism in his inner circle Britain’s chief rabbi suggested anti-Semitism was a “new poison” within the party which had been “sanctioned from the very top” Corbyn failed to dampen the row during a television interview with the BBC side-stepping repeated chances to apologize to Britain’s Jewish community He was also tetchy and evasive when challenged such as in 2018 when questioned whether he had laid a wreath for Palestinian terrorists four years previously Jewish Labour MP Ruth Smeeth who lost her seat to the Conservatives urged Corbyn to “announce he is resigning as leader of the Labour Party from his count today He should have gone many many many months ago” Smeeth has headed the Jewish Labour Movement which broke with Corbyn ahead of the election accusing him of anti-Semitism “We have become the racist party the nasty party because of the actions of our leader and the lack of actions of our leader” she said As bitter recriminations began about the failed campaign former Labour Party Home Secretary Alan Johnson called Corbyn “a disaster on the doorstep Everyone knew that he couldn’t lead the working class out of a paper bag” The results also showed that the ever-cheerful Johnson — fond of saying Britain is the greatest country in the world — connected more easily with voters than the often-dour Corbyn whose claims that Labour would address rising inequality did not gain traction Ian Murray a Labour legislator who won re-election in Scotland said the party’s existence will be threatened if it doesn’t learn from the across-the-board defeats “This party must listen this party must respond or this party will die” he warned He said the party needs not just to replace Corbyn but also to change the world view he brought to the leadership “For the sake of the Labour movement for the sake of the Labour Party but more importantly for the sake of the country not only does the person have to go but the policy and the ideology has to go as well” he said Corbyn early Friday indicated his desire to preside over a period of “reflection” in which the party would regroup a strategy that seems designed to make sure that “Corbynism” — his embrace of European-style socialism with an expanded role for the state — does not end once he is replaced He may face stiff opposition however from Labour figures who want the party to move back to the political center as defined by more successful figures including Tony Blair Gordon Brown and even Ed Miliband who was beaten by the Conservatives in 2015 but did not suffer a drubbing of this magnitude Source Article from Related Posts Cars over anti-Semitism racism remain December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ British Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis who took an unprecedented stand against the Labour Party ahead of the elections said Friday that although the vote is over there are still many challenges that must be faced including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia “The election may be over but concerns about the resurgence of anti-Semitism very much remain” Mirvis said in a statement “Islamophobia racism and other forms of prejudice continue to afflict our communities and as has been well publicized even our political parties” he said “It is vital that we now bring the country together ensuring that the voices of people from across our society are heard and respected We must focus on our shared values and leave all hatred and prejudice far behind us” Get The Times of Israel’s Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories Free Sign Up In an unprecedented op-ed published last month Mirvis said he was compelled to intervene in politics because Britain’s Jews were “gripped by anxiety” over the future of the community and of Judaism in the country amid the prospect of a Labour win Without explicitly calling on people not to vote for Labour or mentioning its leader Jeremy Corbyn by name Mirvis warned that “a new poison – sanctioned from the top – has taken root in the Labour Party” Prime Minister Boris Johnson whose Conservative Party beat Corbyn’s Labour in a landslide victory has in the past been accused of Islamophobia including saying that burqa-wearing women looked like “letter boxes” Despite calls to step aside following the drubbing at the ballot box Corbyn said he would not stand down immediately as party leader “The National Executive will have to meet of course in the very near future and it is up to them It will be in the early part of next year” he told reporters in his Islington constituency He said earlier in the morning he would resign sometime before the UK’s next election Board of Deputies of British Jews President Marie van der Zyl said “anti-Jewish racism has been allowed to run amok” in Labour under Corbyn “When he eventually steps back history will not look kindly on Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party where anti-Jewish racism has been allowed to run amok and some at the highest levels of the party have appeared to collude to protect anti-Semites” van der Zyl said in a statement “We urge the next leader of the Labour Party to act quickly to implement the steps repeatedly recommended by Jewish communal groups to begin solving this crisis and moving our politics forward” she added The Jewish Labour Movement called on Corbyn to step down immediately and blamed his and his supporters “moral and political failures” for the thumping Conservative victory in the election “Labour’s failure in this election lies squarely with the Party’s leadership Because of the public’s rejection of Corbyn as Prime Minister the confused position on Brexit or its total failure to tackle anti-Jewish racism the Party must truly listen” a statement from the group said It expressed disappointment over the election loss of Labour candidate Ruth Smeeth the Jewish Labour Movement’s parliamentary chair “Ruth has represented the best of Labour over these past few years — unafraid and determined to hold the Party’s leadership accountable for their failure to tackle antisemitism despite the abuse she’s faced” it said A member of Labour Friends of Israel Smeeth was elected Parliamentary Chair of the Jewish Labour Movement in April this year Smeeth was elected to the Stoke-on-Trent North seat in 2015 it has been held by Labour since its creation in 1950 She earlier blamed Corbyn for her loss saying his handling of anti-Semitism allegations turned Labour into “the nasty party” The Jewish Labour Movement also said the election result “will do nothing to heal a divided country and instead stoke the rising tide of racism Islamophobia anti-Semitism and hatred within our society” Labour suffered its worst result at the polls since 1935 after what Corbyn admitted had been a “very disappointing night” Ahead of the elections many British Jews said the vote was particularly fateful for them because they believe that the Labour Party has become institutionally anti-Semitic under Corbyn a pro-Palestinian politician who was elected to lead the party in 2015 Corbyn has been accused of failing to deal with incidents of anti-Semitism within his party widely alleged to be anti-Semitic himself was criticized for his reluctance for the party to agree to a definition of anti-Semitism that included some anti-Israel language and blasted for defending an anti-Semitic mural His ties to members of the Hamas and Hezbollah terror groups and photos of him laying a wreath at the grave of a Palestinian terrorist also sparked worries among UK Jews and Israelis who feared that the Jewish state could lose its close alliance with the UK if Corbyn won returned to Downing Street after accepting the Queen’s invitation to form a new government Johnson’s victory paves the way for Britain’s departure from the European Union by Jan 31 The victory makes Johnson the most electorally successful Conservative leader since Margaret Thatcher another politician who was loved and loathed in almost equal measure It was a disaster for left-wing Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn who faced calls for his resignation even as the results rolled in Corbyn said an internal election to choose a new party leader to replace him will happen early next year and that he will step down then As the bitter recriminations began about Labour’s failed campaign former Labour Party Home Secretary Alan Johnson called Corbyn “a disaster on the doorstep Everyone knew that he couldn’t lead the working class out of a paper bag” In the immediate aftermath of the election 70-year-old Corbyn said he would not lead the party into another election but resisted calls to step down immediately US President Donald Trump congratulated Johnson on Twitter and said that “Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new trade deal after Brexit Congratulations to Boris Johnson on his great WIN! Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after BREXIT This deal has the potential to be far bigger and more lucrative than any deal that could be made with the EU Celebrate Boris! — Donald J Trump realDonaldTrump December 13 2019 Results poured in early Friday showing a substantial shift in support to the Conservatives from Labour In the last election in 2017 the Conservatives won 318 seats and Labour 262 The result this time delivered the biggest Tory majority since Thatcher’s 1980s heyday and Labour’s lowest number of seats since 1935 The Scottish National Party won almost 50 of Scotland’s 59 seats up from 35 in 2017 a result that will embolden its demands for a new referendum on Scottish independence The centrist pro-EU Liberal Democrats took only about a dozen seats Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson stepped down after losing in her own Scottish constituency The Conservatives took a swath of seats in post-industrial northern England towns that were long Labour strongholds Labour’s vote held up better in London where the party managed to grab the Putney seat from the Conservatives The decisive Conservative showing vindicates Johnson’s decision to press for Thursday’s early election which was held nearly two years ahead of schedule He said that if the Conservatives won a majority he would get Parliament to ratify his Brexit divorce deal and take the UK out of the EU by the current Jan 31 deadline Speaking at the election count in his Uxbridge constituency in suburban London Johnson said the “historic” election “gives us now in this new government the chance to respect the democratic will of the British people to change this country for the better and to unleash the potential of the entire people of this country” That message appears to have had strong appeal for Brexit-supporting voters who turned away from Labour in the party’s traditional heartlands and embraced Johnson’s promise that the Conservatives would “get Brexit done” “I think Brexit has dominated it has dominated everything by the looks of it” said Labour economy spokesman John McDonnell “We thought other issues could cut through and there would be a wider debate From this evidence there clearly wasn’t” The prospect of Brexit finally happening more than three years after Britons narrowly voted to leave the EU marks a momentous shift for both the UK and the bloc No country has ever left the union which was created in the decades after World War II to bring unity to a shattered continent But a decisive Conservative victory would also provide some relief to the EU which has grown tired of Britain’s Brexit indecision Britain’s departure will start a new phase of negotiations on future relations between Britain and the 27 remaining EU members EU Council President Charles Michel promised that EU leaders meeting Friday would send a “strong message” to the next British government and parliament about next steps “We are ready to negotiate” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said The pound surged when an exit poll forecast the Tory win jumping over two cents against the dollar to 13445 the highest in more than a year and a half Many investors hope the Conservative win will speed up the Brexit process and ease at least in the short term some of the uncertainty that has corroded business confidence since the 2016 vote Many voters casting ballots on Thursday hoped the election might finally find a way out of the Brexit stalemate in this deeply divided nation Three and a half years after the UK voted by 52-48 to leave the EU Britons remain split over whether to leave the 28-nation bloc and lawmakers have proved incapable of agreeing on departure terms Opinion polls had given the Conservatives a steady lead but the result was considered hard to predict because the issue of Brexit cuts across traditional party loyalties Johnson campaigned relentlessly on a promise to “Get Brexit done” by getting Parliament to ratify his “oven-ready” divorce deal with the EU and take Britain out of the bloc as scheduled on Jan 31 The Conservatives focused much of their energy on trying to win in a “red wall” of working-class towns in central and northern England that have elected Labour lawmakers for decades but also voted strongly in 2016 to leave the EU That effort got a boost when the Brexit Party led by Nigel Farage decided at the last minute not to contest 317 Conservative-held seats to avoid splitting the pro-Brexit vote Labour which is largely but ambiguously pro-EU faced competition for anti-Brexit voters from the centrist Liberal Democrats Scottish and Welsh nationalist parties and the Greens But on the whole Labour tried to focus the campaign away from Brexit and onto its radical domestic agenda vowing to tax the rich nationalize industries such as railroads and water companies and give everyone in the country free internet access It campaigned heavily on the future of the National Health Service a deeply respected institution that has struggled to meet rising demand after nine years of austerity under Conservative-led governments Senior Johnson aide Dominic Cummings said that the opponents of the Conservatives just weren’t listening to the public outside London “After the shock of the referendum MPs and journalists should have taken a deep breath and had a lot of self-reflection of why they misunderstood what was going on in the country but instead a lot of people just doubled down on their own ideas” Cummings told Press Association “That’s why something like this happens against expectations” Defeat will likely spell the end for Corbyn a veteran socialist who moved his party sharply to the left after taking the helm in 2015 but who now looks to have led his left-of-center party to two electoral defeats since 2017 The 70-year-old left-winger was also accused of allowing anti-Semitism to spread within the party “It’s Corbyn” said former Labour cabinet minister Alan Johnson when asked about the poor result “We knew he was incapable of leading we knew he was worse than useless at all the qualities you need to lead a political party” For many voters the election offered an unpalatable choice Both Johnson and Corbyn have personal approval ratings in negative territory and both have been dogged by questions about their character Johnson has been confronted with past broken promises untruths and offensive statements from calling the children of single mothers “ignorant aggressive and illegitimate” to comparing Muslim women who wear face-covering veils to “letter boxes” Yet his energy and determination proved persuasive to many voters “It’s a big relief looking at the exit polls as they are now we’ve finally got that majority a working majority that we have not had for 3 1/2 years” said Conservative-supporting writer Jack Rydeheard “We’ve got the opportunity to get Brexit done and get everything else that we promised as well That’s investment in the NHS schools hospitals you name it — it’s finally a chance to break that deadlock in Parliament” Source Article from Related Posts Russian medics prove baby’s December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ BASTOGNE Belgium AP — Pvt Arthur Jacobson of the US military was seeking cover in the snow behind a tank moving slowly through the wooded hills of Belgium’s Ardennes German bullets whizzing by That was when he lost his best friend and Bazooka team partner to sniper fire “They couldn’t hit him he shouted” Jacobson said wistfully “Those were his last words” The recollection of his worst day in the Battle of the Bulge still haunts him three-quarters of a century later during the first return of the 95-year-old to the battlefield Get The Times of Israel’s Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories Free Sign Up And at a time when US President Donald Trump is fanning the flames of trans-Atlantic discord the pristine-white rows of thousands of grave markers over the remains of US soldiers in cemeteries on the former front line hark back to the days when Americans made the ultimate sacrifice for a cause across the ocean The fighting in the bitterly cold winter of 1944 was unforgiving to the extreme What Jacobson didn’t know then was that he was part of the battle to contain Nazi Germany’s desperate last offensive that Adolf Hitler hoped would become his version of the Allies’ D-Day: A momentous thrust that would change the course of World War II by forcing US and British troops to sue for peace thus freeing Germany to focus on rapidly advancing Soviet armies in the east ‘We were there to do something about it’ The Battle of the Bulge “is arguably the greatest battle in American military history” according to the US army historical center Such perspective came only later to Jacobson who was barely 20 at the time “They really didn’t tell us anything” he said “The Germans had attacked through Belgium and we were there to do something about it” Out of the blue at dawn on December 16 1944 over 200000 German troops counter-attacked across the front line in Belgium and Luxembourg smashing into battle-weary US soldiers positioned in terrain as foreign to them as it was familiar to the Germans Yet somehow the Americans blunted the advance and started turning back the enemy for good setting allied troops on a roll that would end the war in Europe less than five months later This battle gained fame not so much for the commanders’ tactics as for the resilience of small units hampered by poor communications that stood shoulder to shoulder to deny Hitler the quick breakthrough he desperately needed Even though the Americans were often pushed back they were able to delay the German advance in its crucial initial stages The tipping point was to come later All weekend a handful of returning veterans like Jacobson will be feted by an ever grateful local population for their bravery Royalty dignitaries and some government leaders will gather in Bastogne Belgium and Hamm Luxembourg on Monday to remember the battle itself “It will be a great day” said Belgian Vice Premier Koen Geens Remembering both the German forces driven on by Hitler’s hated SS troops and the allied soldiers he said: “We are capable of the worst and of the best” ‘I don’t need a necktie’ Overall deaths in the month-long battle are estimated in the five digits The Americans suffered at least 80000 casualties including more than 10000 dead while up to 12000 were listed killed among some 100000 German casualties Among the fallen was Albert W Duffer Jacobson’s Bazooka team partner shot in the neck by a German sniper on January 6 1945 Last Tuesday Jacobson went to greet Duffer for the first time in 75 years — at the Henri Chapelle US cemetery in the northern part of the battle zone where 7987 US soldiers lie buried At dusk Jacobson watched the US flag being lowered and was presented with it in recognition of his valor The Battle of the Bulge was one of the war’s least predictable campaigns After D-Day and the draining Normandy drive allied troops sweeping across the continent believed the worst was behind them Paris had been liberated Gen George Patton was moving eastwards toward Germany and Hitler had to keep an increasingly bleary eye on Stalin’s Soviet armies advancing on the Eastern Front “The thought was that Germany was on its knees and could no longer raise a big army” said Mathieu Billa director of the Bastogne War Museum Still Hitler believed Germany could turn the tide and centered on regaining the northern Belgian port of Antwerp with a push through the sparsely populated Ardennes The 120-mile 170 kilometer dash seemed so fanciful that few of Hitler’s own generals believed in it let alone the allied command Allied intelligence heard something might be afoot but even on the eve of the attack the US VIII Corps daily note said that “There is nothing to report” For days to follow the only reports would be bad for US troops retreating amid word that SS troops were executing their prisoners — like at Malmedy where 80 surrendered soldiers were murdered in a frozen field When Jacobson moved into the Ardennes night temperatures outdoors dropped as low as -20 Celsius -4 Fahrenheit “You had to dance around not to freeze to death” he said Daytime saw the constant fear of sniper fire Back home in the States some were oblivious to the soldiers’ plight “My family sent me a necktie” Jacobson chuckled “I sent a letter back: ‘I don’t need a necktie’” ‘Nuts!’ Soon though the German effort pushed its limits as Antwerp remained well out of reach and troops ran out of ammunition morale and crucially fuel Even the weather turned against the Germans as the skies finally cleared allowing the all-powerful allied air force to pound the enemy Nowhere was that tipping point more visible than in the southern Ardennes town of Bastogne where surrounded US troops were cut off for days with little ammunition or food When Brig Gen Anthony C McAuliffe of the 101st Airborne received a December 22 ultimatum to surrender or face total destruction he offered one of the most famous — and brief — replies in military history: “Nuts” Four days later Patton’s troops broke the encirclement And so it went with the Battle of the Bulge too with the US troops gaining momentum Hits: 1 Concern at anti-Semitism extended beyond Jews played key role in Corbyn defeat December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ Britain’s Labour Party paid a devastating price for Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership in the December 12 general election Deserted by millions of its traditional working-class supporters in the pro-Brexit Midlands and north of England – and weighed down by allegations of extremism and anti-Semitism which dogged Corbyn throughout the six-week campaign – the party suffered a crushing defeat as voters decisively opted to keep Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Downing Street Johnson’s House of Commons majority of 78 seats is the biggest won by any party since Tony Blair secured a second term in 2001 It is also the Tories’ best showing since Margaret Thatcher was re-elected for the third time 32 years ago And it is the Labour Party’s worst defeat since 1935 Get The Times of Israel’s Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories Free Sign Up The result guarantees Britain’s departure from the European Union at the end of next month and will bring an end to the political paralysis which has afflicted the country for nearly three years Despite many British Jews opposing the hardline pro-Brexit stance which underpinned the Conservative victory there was widespread relief at Corbyn’s defeat Only six percent of Jews pre-election polls suggested planned to vote Labour Nearly half said they would have “seriously considered” emigrating if Corbyn – a man 87 of those polled believe is an anti-Semite – had become prime minister That relief was evident in early reaction to the results As Gideon Falter Chief Executive of Campaign Against Antisemitism said in a press statement: “Not for the first time our nation has stood firm against anti-Semitism The British public has watched the once proudly anti-racist Labour Party become infested with Jew-hatred and it has resoundingly decided to stand with its Jewish community and give the anti-Semites a crushing rebuke The faith that British Jews showed in our country has been vindicated” The faith that British Jews showed in our country has been vindicated “Now it seems like the British people have told the Corbynites where to go I realize that the worst thing they did was make Jews so nervous that we even doubted our fellow Brits They don’t like extremists and never have It was awful we should ever have felt need to doubt that” tweeted the Jewish Chronicle’s editor Stephen Pollard The cabinet minister Michael Gove told a Conservative victory rally that he wished to address “a very special group of people our Jewish friends and neighbors” “You have had to live in fear for months now concerns we will have a prime minister who trafficked in anti-Jewish rhetoric and embraced anti-Jewish terrorists” he said “You should never have to live in fear again” Gove who has close ties to the Jewish community said to loud applause Anti-Semitism reverberated beyond the Jewish electorate Political experts linked the anti-Semitism crisis which has roiled Labour under Corbyn’s leadership to the party’s defeat “Voters have cared about the anti-Semitism issue beyond the Jewish community” argued the BBC’s Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg as the scale of Labour’s defeat began to unfold Alistair Campbell Tony Blair’s former press secretary similarly suggested anti-Semitism had played a big part in the rout Labour suffered The Jewish Labour Movement demanded Corbyn resign saying in a statement: “After this historic election defeat Jeremy Corbyn must stand down immediately His team and supporters who have been responsible for Labour’s moral and political failures must take responsibility themselves for allowing five more years of Tory rule” In a message of congratulations to Johnson the president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews Marie van del Zyl said that “history will not look kindly on Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party where anti-Jewish racism has been allowed to run amok” The result will also be warmly welcomed in Jerusalem given Corbyn’s fierce anti-Zionism and deep antipathy towards Israel The Conservatives are pledged to ban local authorities from boycotting Israeli goods Labour by contrast had vowed if it won to ban settlement goods and immediately recognize a Palestinian state curtail some arms sales to Israel and adopt a more hostile stance towards the Jewish state at the United Nations Anti-Semitism in the mass media The precise impact of the anti-Semitism crisis in Labour’s defeat is a matter for academics pollsters and psephologists to pore over in the weeks and months ahead But what is not in doubt is that unlike in the 2017 election the issue repeatedly dominated the news agenda putting Corbyn on the defensive and distracting attention from Labour’s efforts to push its pledges to end austerity ramp up spending and introduce sweeping economic and social changes The campaign began with a widely publicized front-page appeal by the Jewish Chronicle to non-Jews not to vote Labour It saw an unprecedented intervention by Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis warning that Jews were “gripped by anxiety” about the outcome of the election And anti-Semitism was repeatedly raised in the TV debates and interviews with Corbyn finally being forced to apologize to the Jewish community after having doggedly refused to do so during a setpiece interview with the BBC’s Andrew Neil The final week of the contest saw lurid headlines about the leaked contents of the Jewish Labour Movement’s damning submission to the probe being conducted into the party by the UK’s anti-racism watchdog the Equalities and Human Rights Commission On Sunday files detailing the failure of Labour’s disciplinary unit to expel anti-Semites from the party were also leaked to the Sunday Times newspaper For the first time ever the JLM itself “effectively downed tools” during the campaign confining its backing to only a handful of “exceptional” candidates Beyond Jewish groups anger at Corbyn’s handling of anti-Semitism led some normally supportive voices to abandon the party It cost the party the endorsement of the left-wing weekly the New Statesman The Observer newspaper the Guardian’s Sunday sister publication which also usually backs Labour similarly withheld its backing from the party Throughout the campaign pro-Conservative newspapers returned time and again to allegations of anti-Semitism leveled against Labour candidates Reports during the campaign suggested that among the wider public concerns about anti-Semitism were raised unprompted in focus groups Political reporters and analysts also noted that the issue of anti-Semitism had cut through with voters in a way that it did not in the 2017 contest This is unsurprising Since last spring when it was revealed that Corbyn had defended an anti-Semitic mural in East London the issue has rarely been out of the headlines A string of disclosures about both Corbyn’s past comments and actions and the failure to tackle Jew-hate within the party culminated in a number of Labour MPs quitting over the issue earlier this year and the EHRC launching its formal investigation in August As the Sunday Times newspaper suggested last weekend: “For many the scandal has cast doubt on Corbyn’s competence moral character and suitability for high office” Labour itself conceded the damage the issue was doing with Corbyn’s close ally Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell admitting at the weekend that “this has had its effect” Corbyn’s legacy hard to shift Corbyn’s days as leader are now numbered but his hard-left legacy will be harder to shake Many moderate members quit long ago leaving a membership which tilts heavily to the left The party machine is in the hands of Corbyn loyalists And Labour’s – albeit depleted – parliamentary party will see an infusion of new left-wing MPs thanks to the election Moreover despite the party’s heavy losses a number of new staunchly anti-Zionist candidates – such as Apsana Begum in the east London constituency of Poplar and Limehouse Zarah Sultana in the Midlands seat of Coventry South and Bell Ribeiro-Addy a former Campaigns Officer for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign who won the south London constituency of Streatham – were elected By contrast a number of high-profile moderate MPs and pro-Israel voices on the Labour benches – including deputy leader Tom Watson and former Labour Friends of Israel chairs Joan Ryan and Louise Ellman – did not stand for re-election There is also some evidence that the controversy over anti-Semitism in the party might be impacting the attitudes of Labour voters as a whole Polling published this week found that 20 of those supporting the party agreed with the statement that Jews have a disproportionate influence in politics compared with 15 of the wider public and 14 of Tory voters At 29 Labour voters were also more likely than Tory supporters 24 or Britons as a whole 24 to view Jews as more loyal to Israel than the UK As Dave Rich of the Jewish charity the Community Security Trust tweeted: “Corbyn cheerleaders love pointing to polls from a few years ago showing more antisemitism on the right than the left Well guess what Four years of abuse and gaslighting under this leadership have changed things” With Corbyn’s announcement that he will not lead Labour into the next general election a leadership contest will debate and decide the party’s future direction Hard-left favorites such as shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey will offer variants of “Corbynism without Corbyn” A slow move back to the center might take place if the party picks the shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry or shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer Backbencher Jess Phillips a critic of Corbyn who has gained popularity beyond the party might also run and might offer the sharpest break with the past But that debate about why Labour lost and how it moves forward may also be a fraught one As Dr Toby Greene a research fellow at Queen Mary University of London wrote on Wednesday: “Some of Corbyn’s devotees will surely blame any loss on a conspiracy by the media financial interests and yes British Jews” His warning was echoed by Ellman who also suggested earlier this week that “we are now preparing for a situation where the Jews are the scapegoat” if Labour is defeated “The Labour Party is entering a new stage of anti-Jewish hostility and I just ask them to call a halt to it” she argued Early signs of those fears came when Ken Livingstone the controversial former London mayor who claimed in 2016 that Hitler had supported Zionism told the PA news agency overnight that “The Jewish vote wasn’t very helpful” The remarks said the BBC’s Kuennsberg “may well cause some eyebrows to shoot up” Livingstone did go on to suggest that Corbyn “should have tackled that issue far earlier than he did” At the very least the response from the Labour leader’s supporters to Jewish demonstrators outside a Corbyn eve-of-poll rally in London suggested little sympathy towards their fears about anti-Semitism in the party Many Britons will simply be happy this dark and divisive winter campaign has come to an end But for now many Britons will simply be happy this dark and divisive winter campaign has come to an end Despite the unpopularity of their respective leaders – Johnson’s ratings are the worst of any new prime minister in 40 years – both parties opted to run presidential-style election campaigns The election was thus best seen as an unpopularity contest Ultimately many voters held their noses and voted for the party led by the man they disliked the least It comes as no great surprise that that turned out to be Boris Johnson soul is seeking for union with the nourishment that only the spirit can provide a sort of quest for the holy grail to transcend the physical and re-enter a paradisical state of consciousness You may call it enlightenment the golden moment of illumination or the quest for the holy grail of your personal yearnings among many other names This insatiable desire arises like a flaming sword that cuts through the barriers that separate the soul and its spiritual longings to find the garden of paradise again Like a powerfully hurled spear of fire the awakened consciousness of wisdom that is gleaned from wielding the flaming sword falls like lightning and pierces the heart to open it as a wound that blossoms into a flowing vessel of love This vessel of consciousness then overflows with the descending rain of fire coming from the fiery thoughts that rush into the pierced humble heart-grail of the aspirant of the spirit This process is the physical signature of the cosmic descent of the human spirit It is an ongoing process and must always be “sought after” like the “quest” of the grail knights or the “Way” of the early Christians It takes an open seeking soul that has purified itself beforehand to witness and participate in this wondrous process of human spiritual evolution Douglas Gabriel translates the Damascus Event in a personal way so that others who have had the experience might understand it and in anticipation for those who will meet the Cosmic Christ in the future point to the indications of Rudolf Steiner to elucidate the spiritual event I was born clairvoyant and saw angels flying into our earthly realm heard archangels sounding their harmonic music throughout everything and felt the hand of the divine that instructed me in the language of the spirit The problem was that almost no one around me saw heard or felt these beings I had more conversations with these beings in my youth than with my family and friends I could not understand why others did not perceive these other dimensions and experience these beings all around them To me nature was filled with elemental beings who could communicate their source and nature I could see that higher spiritual beings were grouped in ranks and accomplished many tasks through their particular elementals Reading people’s minds was quite easy and often I could read their feelings and actions better than they could if they acted without consideration which is what people do most of the time Throughout my life I have been searching for a way to speak about the chasm that exists between normal materialistic perception of the world and the perception of the world from the point of view of a clairvoyant clairaudient and clairsentient person like myself The chasm between clairvoyant and materialistic perception is so great that there truly were no words to describe these painful gaps in perception when I was young Once I reached the age of nine I realized that the chasm was too large to cross until I could build some type of bridge that would cross over from the spiritless materialism of our times to true living thinking feeling and willing The threefold division of the soul into thinking feeling and willing causes a minor crisis in the soul of a materialist as it tries to merge these three distinct realms of activity into one united consciousness Most people have yet to realize that there are three distinct soul capacities that must be understood before a balanced personality can arise Because I could see these basic problems people were having I became a psychic reader and used palm reading Tarot cards playing cards astrology and many other methodologies as tools to aid in the process of helping people learn to perceive their outer and inner worlds in light of spiritual principles By helping to raise the consciousness of the person I was helping he or she was given an opportunity to perceive the world as I did full of spiritual beings trying to help us ascend the ladder of consciousness The bridge between the outer world and the inner world of the human soul has yet to be understood by philosophy psychology or physical science What goes on in the soul is invisible and very hard to understand with the limits of the five senses For me there were twelve senses that rayed into my soul from the starry world that must be worked with to understand the world we perceive outside of our inner world These twelve senses helped me understand the hierarchy of spiritual beings who work together to create both the inside and outside world Please note preventing me from accompanying my mother to chemotherapy December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ On Sept 5 I received the tragic news that my mother was diagnosed with cancer As well as trying to cope with the shock and the unrelenting challenges of life-or-death uncertainty as a Palestinian living in the West Bank I also had to worry about something else: Israel’s occupation and its brutal control of all aspects of our daily lives When I learned about my mother’s illness I applied for a travel permit from the Israeli military to accompany my mother to medical appointments at the hospital in East Jerusalem where she was to receive chemotherapy treatment For decades Israel has imposed a permit system restricting all movement for Palestinians who are required to apply for special authorization to enter Israel and occupied East Jerusalem for any reason including work medical care family visits and trips to religious cultural and archaeological sites As in so many cases involving younger Palestinians particularly men Israeli authorities denied my permit request for undisclosed “security reasons” This means that twice a month when my mom goes to receive her chemotherapy at the hospital — only a 15-minute drive from our home — I am forbidden from accompanying her I must stay put in the living room and wait for updates about how she’s doing over the phone Israel’s punishment didn’t stop there On Oct 26 when I was heading to Jordan to attend my aunt’s funeral Israel prevented me from traveling abroad again for “security reasons” Israel’s occupation manages to separate us from our loved ones in life and death in the most hideous and punitive ways Now I can no longer leave the occupied West Bank at all In the simplest and most definitive terms: I am locked in The “security reasons” for which I have been banned have never been revealed to me What has become increasingly clear however is that Israeli authorities are targeting human rights advocates with “security” bans for the role we play in exposing Israeli human rights violations When I began working for Amnesty International as the Israel and Palestine campaigner in 2017 I was granted a permit so I could travel to our office in East Jerusalem But earlier this year Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan instructed his ministry to “examine the possibility of preventing the entry and stay of Amnesty International in Israel” He made this decision following the release of our report exposing how tourism companies such as TripAdvisor and Airbnb are profiting from Israeli settlements The irony is salient as throughout 2019 I’ve been campaigning on cases of human rights defenders who were either arrested banned from traveling or kicked out of the country In September 2018 Israel arrested Ayman Nasser the legal unit coordinator of Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer and he is still being held without charge or trial Prominent Bedouin leader Sheikh Sayyah al-Turi was detained in December 2018 and released last August for his role in the fight for the residents of al-‘Araqib to remain on the lands of their village which the Israeli authorities have demolished over 150 times Earlier this year Israel prevented Omar Barghouti a Palestinian human rights defender and co-founder of the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions BDS movement from traveling abroad to attend his daughter’s wedding when Israeli authorities refused to renew his travel document Palestinian photojournalist Mustafa al-Kharouf continues to face threats of deportation after having his application for family unification rejected by Israeli authorities These silencing attempts are not limited only to Palestinian human rights advocates Last month Omar Shakir the Israel and Palestine director for Human Rights Watch who is a US citizen was deported for his role in highlighting Israel’s human rights violations These cases provide concrete proof of Israel’s intensifying war on human rights defenders and civil society organizations As I campaign for the rights of these brave advocates I now find myself in the same shackles The growing list of human rights defenders who are detained attacked denied entry or facing deportation or travel bans illustrates the heavy price they are forced to pay for carrying out their vital work of protecting and promoting basic rights and freedoms This list is neither comprehensive nor static Trends in Israeli policies and practices indicate that the list is likely to continue to grow Human rights defenders today are unable to carry out their peaceful work without fear of reprisal by Israel Activists who dare to challenge Israel’s appalling human rights record are operating in a worsening climate of fear uncertainty incitement and repression Third states particularly those that include human rights protection as part of their foreign policy such as EU member states have occasionally condemned such arbitrary measures but have not taken concrete action Israeli officials interpret this inaction as a green light to continue intensifying the repression of human rights defenders Now is the time that they stand up for these rights defenders and you’ll find old-fashioned Labour supporters speak of the Thatcher government in such negative terms that they still hate the Conservatives even today 40 years on They pin 100 percent of the blame on the Conservatives for the decline in manufacturing and the loss of the coal-mining industry In the meantime they’ve forgotten what they’re actually fighting for When I was elected in the North East I spent time in Blyth Valley – a deprived but incredibly warm and friendly community which had voted Labour ever since the constituency was created Last night my defining moment of the election coverage was seeing them vote for the Conservatives My family come from Scunthorpe a town which has voted Labour every time for the last 32 years – until people woke up this morning to find they’d elected a Conservative MP with a landslide This election has been a tidal wave of blue Also on rtcom Labour’s failure to realise this was a 2nd Brexit referendum hands Britain to Boris It’s difficult to say whether the fear of Jeremy Corbyn or the fear of Brexit being betrayed was the greater driving force – but the combination of the two provided a level of motivation I’ve never seen Former Commonwealth title-winning boxer Ross Burkinshaw who had never voted before in his life rushed back home to vote for the Conservatives He told me that he’d been undecided between the Conservatives and the Brexit Traditional Labour working-class voters felt likewise: this Islington iteration of Labour means nothing to them Even Dennis Skinner in Bolsover was swept away by the wave Labour had forgotten to tend to its heartlands The scale of the defeat could have been even worse: many voters chose the Brexit Party instead of Conservatives some Lib Dems shifted tactically to Labour Labour responded with negativity It threatened that Conservatives would sell off the NHS But like the boy who cried wolf they did so once too often: they’d made similar claims of Tory threats to the NHS in 2010 2015 and 2017 For most of the time the NHS has existed it’s been in Conservative hands This time the claim wasn’t believed – or if it was the threat of Corbyn and losing Brexit was seen as even bigger Labour’s economic claims weren’t just exaggerated parties do that all the time but so exaggerated that nobody was really surprised when they announced an extra £60 billion spending commitment double the size of the EU ‘divorce bill’ during the campaign that wasn’t in their manifesto £60 billion doesn’t just appear from behind the sofa Also on rtcom Conservatives gain enough seats for outright majority in from ‘The Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson – sharpens the blade of anti-white racism December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ I recently watched The Birth of a Nation 1915 DW Griffith’s century old ode to the Ku Klux Klan Griffith’s masterpiece is a disgusting piece of racial propaganda but it was a huge box office success and no doubt kicked off Hollywood’s long and ugly history of demeaning and belittling portrayals of people of color in its movies I thought of The Birth of a Nation while watching Knives Out this week Knives Out a star-studded and fun-loving murder mystery that boasts a 92 percent audience score at Rotten Tomatoes has banked over 128 million at the box office You may be wondering why on earth something as seemingly innocent as Knives Out made me think of The Birth of a Nation Well when I went and saw Knives Out I fully expected a light-hearted and comedic take on the whodunit genre but what I got instead was a politically charged thinly veiled allegory of immigration in America fueled by a pernicious anti-white racism The racial animus on display in Knives Out is certainly not as vicious as anything seen in The Birth of a Nation but it is just as gratuitous The plot of Knives Out revolves around the death of successful crime writer Harlan Thrombey Christopher Plummer who may or may not have committed suicide Harlan’s Latina immigrant nurse Marta Ana de Armas is the protagonist of the story and she works with famed private detective Benoit Blanc Daniel Craig to try and solve the case The main suspects are Harlan’s adult children Walt and Linda Linda’s husband Richard a widowed daughter-in-law Joni and the grandchildren chief among them Ransom The Thrombeys all have a reason for wanting Harlan dead the most notable of which is inheriting his vast fortune and palatial estate The Thrombeys are the picture of spoiled white privilege as they live off their father’s largess and are so self-absorbed they can’t even be bothered to remember what Latin American country Marta originally came from They are a conniving and scheming bunch who without hesitation threaten to have Marta and her family deported when she becomes a threat to their fortune Knives Out drips with a visceral hatred for white people that permeates its every scene All the white characters are portrayed as morally ethically and intellectually revolting It isn’t just the rich Thrombeys who are held up for scorn by Knives Out as the film’s anti-white animus crosses class barriers as well For example even the Thrombey’s white housekeeper Fran is shown to be greedy and duplicitous Another example is Trooper Wagner a dim-witted white police officer obsessed with pop culture who provides comedic relief by being an empty-headed buffoon In contrast to the loathsome and irredeemable white characters the Latina immigrant Marta is portrayed as a near saint so much so that she is literally incapable of lying without vomiting Marta is inherently noble and good which is very evident when the watchdogs do her the courtesy of never barking at her and also when the esteemed Benoit Blanc simply declares her to be “a good person” upon meeting her and takes her on as his accomplice in solving the crime But even Blanc is not up to Marta’s intellectual standard as she consistently outwits him in some of the movie’s funniest scenes Also on rtcom New ‘Star Wars’ may have a gay character — if this franchise continues to go woke it will continue to go broke I enjoy it when a film has a political perspective and I think making the immigration debate a part of a film’s text or sub-text is a noble venture but that venture loses its moral authority when the politics put forth are as racially-driven odious and insipid as that on display in Knives Out Hollywood has long misrepresented minorities with cheap caricature and stereotype because it is the easy path The hard path is that of nuance where characters regardless of race are comprised of differing shades and motivations that highlight their humanity When even the most villainous of characters are multi-dimensional art flourishes and insight is soon to follow… look no further than the artistic and commercial success of Joker for evidence of that But when characters are stereotyped and caricatured especially out of racial animosity art stagnates and insights recede Knives Out is proof of that What is seemingly contradictory about Knives Out being insidious anti-white propaganda is that the film is written and directed by a white man Rian Johnson and the cast is majority white This should come as no surprise though as it has become de rigueur out here in Hollywood for white people to consistently self-loathe over their whiteness White social justice warriors basking in self-loathing is the most vacuous and common form of virtue signaling nowadays Woke white self-flagellation has become performance art posing as racial sensitivity that in actuality is the most pernicious form of cheap grace as it costs the self-loather nothing and reduces fighting racism to mere narcissism and masturbatory theatre Also on rtcom ‘Ford v Ferrari’: The return of masculine cinema It is understandable with the ugly history of racism in Hollywood that filmmakers would want to push in the opposite direction but countering the demeaning and belittling portrayals of minorities with equally demeaning and belittling portrayals of white people is not a solution to the evil of racism but a continuation of it What I find so unnerving is that audiences are so enamored with Knives Out I guess the film’s success at getting white people to cheer their own degradation and by film’s end their own demise is a testament to American’s susceptibility to propaganda and their ruling conflates two things: it effectively bestows on the Jewish religion a national or race identity and the rights thereof secondly the presidential order equates criticism of the Israeli state with anti-Semitism Henceforth the US government can penalize federally funded academic institutions where courses or activities critical of Israel are identified by invoking existing civil rights laws protecting nations or races from discrimination In the name of combating anti-Semitism universities colleges and schools could be deprived of federal funds This will have a gagging impact on education debate and free speech under the guise of supposedly protecting Jews from discrimination Trump’s move has grave implications for the constitutional rights of all American citizens Also on rtcom Incidents of hate-violence have all generally increased since Trump became president The president has himself been accused of fueling white nationalists with neo-Nazi ideologies who often target Jews What is depicted as growing anti-Semitism in colleges and campuses is more accurately seen as an increasing criticism and opposition to the Israeli state and its documented violations against Palestinians in the Occupied Territories American students as in many other countries have been effective in building the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions BDS campaign which is severely damaging Israel’s international image This is analogous to the British media hype about Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his party allegedly harboring anti-Semitic views There is negligible evidence of made sacrosanct under pain of federal funding cuts to educational institutions This is hardly surprising because the Trump administration has shown itself to be an overseas arm of Israeli state interests Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state and his decision to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem have elevated him in the eyes of Israelis as the and pandering to Israel Partly this is payback for massive political donations to Trump’s election campaign from billionaires like Sheldon Adelson who is a fervent supporter of Israel Trump’s family and his in-laws are also reported to have lucrative financial interests tied up with Israeli settlements Further there is the rightwing Evangelical Christian voter base that Trump is playing to Many of these Christians believe that Trump is fulfilling supposed biblical prophecies about Israel being the chosen place for the Second Coming of Christ …like he’s the King of Israel They love him like ago the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to keep an election promise He promised his BJP supporters he would make Kashmir more democratic by abolishing what he saw as practices which affected non-Kashmiris For example people who are not Kashmiris cannot buy homes in the state Whatever you may think about the way he announced it the way he enforced it Modi listened to his people In the UK meanwhile the Labour Party decided to condemn the move and criticise it at its annual party conference a few weeks ago This set off a chain of events which I believe had an impact in these Alan Dershowitz applaud A new executive order is the latest step in the campaign to embed a nontraditional Israel-focused definition of anti-Semitism in public institutions thereby preventing negative information about Israel from reaching the public… and impeding the growing movement for Palestinian human rights By Alison Weir President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday designed to combat criticism of Israel During the signing event he emphasized his support for Israel and called BDS the international boycott of Israel over its violations of Palestinian human rights “an anti-Semitic campaign” Among those Trump called up to speak at the signing ceremony was former Harvard Professor and Jeffrey Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz who proclaimed that the executive order would “go down in history as one of the most important events in the 2000 year battle against anti-Semitism” video below Dershowitz is the author of The Case for Israel While the official title of the executive order is “Combating Anti-Semitism” the definition of anti-Semitism that it uses is a recently created nontraditional version in which certain criticisms of Israel are considered “anti-Semitism” While the traditional dictionary definition of anti-Semitism makes no mention of Israel the definition cited in the executive order mentions Israel nine times A new definition is born Natan Sharansky Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs who formulated an Israel-centric definition of anti-Semitism that has spread globally The definition builds on an Israel-focused formulation first created by an Israeli minister Natan Sharansky in 2004 This new formulation for defining anti-Semitism has been steadily inserted into institutions throughout the world ever since from transnational entities to college campuses Trump’s executive order is the latest incarnation of this campaign Citations for this and following paragraphs can be seen here The formulation was first used in a working definition adopted by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia EUMC in 2005 The Centre had been founded partially for this purpose by Jean Kahn who had been elected president of the European Jewish Congress at a plenary session in Israel During the same time period Israel partisans in the US – helped by Sharansky Israeli Minister for Diaspora Affairs – successfully pushed for the creation of an “Anti-Semitism Monitoring Office” in the State Department directed by an “Anti-Semitism Envoy” who would police alleged anti-Semitism around the world The State Department had opposed the new office and envoy saying they were unnecessary The first such envoy Gregg Rickman quickly endorsed the EUMC definition Rickman later went to work for AIPAC “American’s pro-Israel lobby“ and the second envoy Hannah Rosenthal then adopted it With its use Rosenthal announced the monitoring of “anti-Semitism had “improved 300 percent” IHRA steps in A few years later however the campaign to embed the new Israel-centric definition of anti-Semitism in institutions worldwide hit a brief bump in the road when the EUMC quietly dropped the definition The US Office on Anti-Semitism retained it however simply removing the link to the original source This was considered problematic however and Israel partisans began working for a new institution to create a similar definition Finally in 2016 the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance IHRA adopted a definition built on the EUMC definition LIke the EUMC version this document contained a short “definition” followed by “examples” to be used in determining anti-Semitism – these are an integral part of the definition A British attorney noted that “the underlying purpose of the text is to neutralise serious criticism of Israel by stigmatising it as a form of antisemitism” The US Brandeis Center an Israel advocacy organization named for the Supreme Court Justice who had led world Zionism for a time in its early years applauded the move saying that “because the IHRA has adopted it the definition has now officially been given the international status that it was previously lacking” Elan Carr steps in Another snag however came with Trump’s election and his failure to nominate a new Anti-Semitism Envoy causing numerous Jewish groups to call him anti-Semitic for the delay Eventually giving in to pressure in February Trump named Elan Carr the new Anti-Semitism Envoy Carr’s mother appears to have had Israeli citizenship and in August Carr updated the abandoned EUMC definition with the IHRA version Carr who was featured at the executive order signing event quickly made up for lost time attending conferences in Europe to promote the IHRA definition In October he announced at the “Second World Jewish Congress International Meeting of Special Envoys and Coordinators for Combating Antisemitism” that “every law enforcement office and every prosecutorial agency throughout the world” must “force everybody who has even a hint of antisemitism to undergo a tolerance program” Elan Carr center presents a report on BDS in Brussels Sept 25 2019 Carr called BDS “classical old anti-Semitism repackaged and rebranded cloaked poorly as anti-Israel rhetoric” Carr says that “every law enforcement office and prosecutorial agency throughout the world” must “force everybody who has even a hint of antisemitism to undergo a tolerance program” Trump’s new executive order interprets Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as protecting students on school and college campuses from anti-Semitism – as defined by the IHRA definition Since the Department of Education can withhold federal funding from any college or educational program that is determined to violate Title VI the executive order is expected to cause serious financial penalties for campuses that don’t toe the line on Israel one of the announced objectives of the order A senior vice president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education points out that university officials are likely to feel “obligated to investigate and punish speech protected by the First Amendment We know that when the federal government tells colleges and universities to jump they jump” As a result academic courses research and campus events that explore Israel’s founding war of ethnic cleansing for example or that investigate Israeli actions that constitute apartheid under international law may be impeded or prohibited despite their factual bases Palestinians expelled by Israeli forces in 1948 Israeli author Ilan Pappé and other historians document that such actions were part of plan to create a Jewish state on land inhabited by a population that was largely Muslim and Christian Similar legislation had previously been introduced in Congressional bills sponsored by both parties but had stalled over concerns that the legislation would violate Americans’ constitutional right of free speech and interfere with academic freedom The American Civil Liberties Union ACLU stated that the legislation posed “a serious threat to the First Amendment free speech rights of those on campus who may hold certain political views” The ACLU noted: “The First Amendment prevents the federal government from using its great weight to impose severe penalties on a person simply for sharing a political viewpoint critical of Israel” A signing the executive order Trump has fast-tracked a policy that Congress was having trouble passing despite support from both parties likely pleasing numerous well-heeled supporters including Trump patron Sheldon Adelson An executive order is less enduring than legislation however and can be overturned by the next sitting president – if the individual has the political will If that happens however Israel partisans need not despair Billionaire Israel advocate Ron Lauder has pledged 25 million toward the creation of a new effort called “the Anti-Semitism Accountability Project ASAP” that will broadcast TV and radio ads confront political candidates and threaten university professors that Lauder considers anti-Semitic an example of an anti-Semite according to Lauder is Bernie Sanders and his statements about Gaza Lauder is president of the World Jewish Congress which recently awarded its Theodor Herzl Award to Nikki Haley for her work on behalf of Israel Funding for his latest venture is unlikely to be a problem as Lauder and his brother heirs of the Estée Lauder cosmetics empire have a combined net worth of 25 billion While Trump’s executive order has been covered in various media reports many were written without access to its actual text which the White House withheld for a period of time However Jewish Insider somehow obtained a copy which is posted below: EXECUTIVE ORDER – – – – – – – COMBATING ANTI-SEMITISM By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America it is hereby ordered as follows: Section 1 Policy My Administration is committed to combating the rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Semitic incidents in the United States and around the world Anti-Semitic incidents have increased since 2013 and students in particular continue to face anti-Semitic harassment in schools and on university and college campuses Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Title VI 42 USC 2000d et seq prohibits discrimination on the basis of race color and national origin in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance While Title VI does not cover discrimination based on religion individuals who face discrimination on the basis of race color or national origin do not lose protection under Title VI for also being a member of a group that shares common religious practices Discrimination against Jews may give rise to a Title VI violation when the discrimination is based on an individual’s race color or national origin It shall be the policy of the executive branch to enforce Title VI against prohibited forms of discrimination rooted in anti-Semitism as vigorously as against all other forms of discrimination prohibited by Title VI Sec 2 Ensuring Robust Enforcement of Title VI a In enforcing Title VI and identifying evidence of discrimination based on race color or national origin all executive departments and agencies agencies charged with enforcing Title VI shall consider the following: i the non-legally binding working definition of anti-Semitism adopted on May 26 2016 by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance IHRA which states “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities” and ii the “Contemporary Examples of Anti-Semitism” identified by the IHRA to the extent that any examples might be useful as evidence of discriminatory intent b In considering the materials described in subsectionsai and aii of this section agencies shall not diminish or infringe upon any right protected under Federal law or under the First Amendment As with all other Title VI complaints the inquiry into whether a particular act constitutes discrimination prohibited by Title VI will require a detailed analysis of the allegations Sec 3 Additional Authorities Prohibiting Within 120 days of the date of this order the head of each agency charged with enforcing Title VI shall submit a report to the President through the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy identifying additional nondiscrimination authorities within its enforcement authority with respect to which the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism Summit in Florida Dec 7 2019 In his recent speech to IAC President Trump offered a buffet of falsehoods on Israel: sins of omission sins of commission white lies and whoppers Time to fact-check by Kathryn Shihadah Last weekend President Trump gave a speech at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in which he enumerated the many goodies he’s bestowed on both Israel and Israel partisans It was a long list – and it’s going to get longer The Israeli-American Council is composed of Israeli citizens who have also taken US citizenship It is largely funded by casino magnate Sheldon Adelson who once said that he regretted serving in the US military instead of the Israeli one Let’s take a few minutes to examine and possibly factcheck the speech Trump started on a grand note: Today I’m here to talk about how peace-loving nations can work together to build a future of greater security prosperity and hope for our children and generations to come He then took a swing at the previous administration for its supposed anti-Israel position: The incredible partnership between the United States and Israel suffered very gravely in the last administration…I don’t think they liked Israel too much After eight long years in which our alliance was undermined and neglected I am happy to report that the United States-Israeli relationship is stronger now than ever before Applause FACT CHECK: While Obama at times talked a pro-Palestine talk he was ineffective some say he didn’t even try when it came to policy In short when President Obama left office Palestinians were even worse off than when he started Mahmoud Abbas President of the State of Palestine and Palestinian National Authority visits the White House in March 2014 Trump went on to tout the qualities that he claimed Americans and Israelis share: America and Israel are woven together by history heritage and the hearts of our people We share a love of freedom democracy religious liberty the rule of law and national sovereignty FACT CHECK: Mr Trump freedom in Israel is only for some democracy is impossible due to the apartheid regime religious liberty is a mirage Israel lives under the rule of two laws ie apartheid national sovereignty is only for white Jews For those in the US who are not head-over-heels unconditional lovers of Israel President Trump encouraged dual loyalty which is only bad when it is referenced – allegedly – by a Democrat or POC: We have to get the people of our country of this country to love Israel more I have to tell you that We have to do it We have to get them to love Israel more Because you have people that are Jewish people that are great people — they don’t love Israel enough You know that You know that Applause Trump then gave a nod to the tragic history of the Jewish people: The story of Israel is a tale of triumph in the face of centuries of oppression and persecution The Jewish people endured persevered and flourished beyond measure building a thriving proud beautiful and mighty nation in the Holy Land FACT CHECK: Trump’s whitewashed version of “history” a fails to mention the elephants in the room – the state of Israel was built at incalculable cost to Palestinians it thrives only because it breaches international law grabs 10 million every day of US taxpayer money and tapped into the Rothschild banking fortune which built its Knesset building Supreme Court and national library among other things And then Trump began boasting of the myriad injustices he has wrought against the Palestinian people and the US Constitution – speaking as always with more than a touch of self-congratulation His saga of the embassy move included a long story edited somewhat here that illustrated Trump’s disassociation with common sense: The Jewish State has never had a better friend in the White House than your President Donald J Trump Applause That I can tell you Two years ago this week I officially recognized Israel’s true and eternal capital and we opened the American Embassy in Jerusalem finally Applause I understand why previous presidents never did it They never did it because when they thought I was going to do it and when they heard that I was going to make an announcement in two weeks I started getting calls from everyone I got calls from presidents I got calls from prime ministers I got calls from kings and queens I got calls from everyone “Don’t do it Don’t do it please” Don’t do it It will be terrible if you do it It will be horrible if you do it”…some countries you never even heard of were calling I said “What’s that country all about” And then the time came closer and closer and I did something that was smart…I said “Listen tell these people I’m going to call them back I’m so busy” …and then I made the announcement at the White House that we’re moving the embassy to Jerusalem and that Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel Finally somebody said it Right And it was a big deal and it was great…CNN said “Massive crowds have gathered Massive crowds… And it was a con It was fake news as usual FACT CHECK: The Washington Post reported “widespread protests with tens of thousands gathering across the region to show their anger” The Israeli military “used tear gas stun grenades and rubber bullets to break up demonstrations” In Gaza live fire was used against protestors along with airstrikes in return for rockets that had caused no injury Sheldon Adelson is reported to have persuaded Trump to make the move Back to the phone calls which he was now ready to return: I call: “Hi King What’s up What’s happening” He said “I wanted to tell you I didn’t like you doing that with Israel” “Oh man! I wish I called you back a little sooner I’m sorry” Call a president: “What’s up President” “I wanted to tell you not to do that sir But you’ve done it” What can I — “Yeah I wish — you know I wish I could have gotten you sooner but I’m so busy” Laughter I took about 40 of those calls Right Everyone was the same: “I wanted to tell you…” I said “But you know in the meantime it opened and it was you know really pretty amazing” It was done We did the deal Mr Trump needs to fact check his statements on Israel – people are listening It takes a special kind of recklessness to brag about ignoring the advice of dozens of world leaders But Trump wants supporters more than he wants wise guidance – which explains how he came to came to his decision on the Golan Heights in under a minute: I’ve also recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights I said to David Friedman ambassador to Israel previously bankruptcy lawyer “David tell me about the Golan Heights in 30 seconds or less” He said “It’s high It’s important It’s sovereign it’s security” And I said “What do you think David” He said “I think you could do it” Fifty-two years and I get “bing” — and we did it It was done Applause It was done FACT CHECK: The Golan is not part of Israel and Trump’s declaration does not alter the illegality of Israel’s annexation Syrians living in the Golan Heights have been oppressed and occupied by Israel since 1967 What else did Trump oversimplify And as Israel has endured the new wave of rocket attacks in recent weeks my administration has made clear that America supports Israel’s absolute right to self-defense Applause FACT CHECK: Never mind the fact that those rockets killed no one and rarely do and started only after massive Israeli violence never mind the millions of Palestinians under siege in the Gaza Strip and their right to self-defense or the thousands of Palestinians that Israel has killed in numerous invasions and bombings We’ve also called for the release of Israeli hostages and the return of the remains of Israeli soldiers captured by Hamas terrorists in Gaza Applause FACT CHECK: Trump fails to mention the fact that while Hamas is holding the remains of two Israeli soldiers and one live Israeli captive Israel is withholding the remains of hundreds of Palestinians and plans to keep all bodies in the future and has 5000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails including children Next Another thing that no other administration would do…I said “Did you ever hold back the money from the Palestinian Authority” They said “No…We didn’t think it was right to do” I said “I do” Laughter “I do” So we don’t pay anything anymore I signed legislation to withhold US taxpayer dollars from the Palestinian Authority until they stop rewarding terrorists with blood money Applause FACT CHECK: Trump’s oversimplification ignores first and foremost that the PA’s program is not about “rewarding terrorists” but about providing for the families devastated by the Israeli occupation Every country has compensation programs for both military members and civilians taken prisoner killed or injured in the line of duty But additionally Trump’s shallow understanding of the issue fails to account for Israel’s state violence which the US has tolerated and subsidized for decades Democratic candidates for president are beginning to question this policy Next Billionaire and inordinate pro-Israel donor Sheldon Adelson told me “The biggest thing you did for Israel was breaking up and terminating the horrible one-sided catastrophic deal that was made by President Obama” Applause Right We must never allow a regime that chants “Death to America” or “Death to Israel” to obtain a nuclear weapon That’s all we can say Applause FACT CHECK: Just a quick note here on the irrelevance of the Iran issue to the United States: “Iran in 2019 is no danger to US interests anywhere The US is squeezing Iran mainly because Israel wants it to Iran is the only regional power that is deterring him Netanyahu from completely annexing the West Bank Iran is also a major supporter of Hamas the resistance movement in Gaza” Like Trump Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may need a fact check Here he points to the graphic of a bomb as he addresses the 67th United Nations General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York September 27 2012 More oversimplifications: Roughly 80 times this past decade the United Nations Human Rights Council has denounced Israel while ignoring many of the worst human rights abuses anywhere in the world To call out this egregious hypocrisy I withdrew the United States from the UN Human Rights Council Applause FACT CHECK: Actually the UNHRC has denounced dozens of other countries – but that’s beside the point Israel is in fact guilty of many human rights abuses Israel self-identifies as a Western-style modern albeit Jewish democracy – in order to live up to the title it must address the accusations If it refuses the “egregious hypocrisy” resides not in the UNHRC but in Israel itself – and perhaps its greatest benefactor My administration is committed to aggressively challenging and confronting anti-Semitic bigotry in every resource and using every single weapon at our disposal Recently the European Union Court of Justice has also tried to discriminate against products made in Israeli settlements advancing the agenda of anti-Israeli Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement or commonly known as BDS FACT CHECK: BDS and the efforts of the EU Court of Justice are neither anti-Semitic nor discriminatory Israeli settlements however are illegal under international law The EU has every right to address this injustice President Trump does more than ignore the facts He makes up “alternative facts”: My administration has now corrected a longstanding injustice by officially declaring that international law does not prohibit civilian settlements in the West Bank Applause FACT CHECK: International law does prohibit civilian settlements in the West Bank The words of the President do not have the power to alter the meaning of the Fourth Geneva Convention What’s next Shockingly a number of far-left members of Congress have also recently joined the international effort to bully attack and denigrate Israel…Earlier this year a number of prominent Democrat lawmakers sponsored legislation to support the BDS movement Make no mistake: Radical lawmakers who support the BDS movement are advancing anti-Israel and anti-Semitic propaganda And Americans will not stand for it We’re not going to stand for it Applause FACT CHECK: No Mr Trump the majority of Americans will not stand for the infringement on their First Amendment rights – even for Israel Legislators are the ones who contrary to the wishes of their constituents wish to silence BDS BDS addresses injustice in Israel which is not an anti-Semitic position And the reference to “bullying” Congress members This is simply the beginnings of a new movement toward honesty about Israel – something that Israel partisans are not used to hence the “bullying” label and do not want to continue hence Trump’s vow to make it stop Elan Carr like Trump may need a fact check on Israel Trump then invited Elan Carr Anti-Semitism Envoy to speak for a moment Carr described his work to punish anti-Semitic hate crimes all over Europe adopt the Israel-centric International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance IHRA definition of anti-Semitism and stifle free speech ie criticism of Israel on college campuses around the world Carr went on to describe actual anti-Semitism fake anti-Semitism in the form of criticism of Israel and the Islamophobic manufactured anti-Semitism of “militant Islam” – all of which thanks to Trump’s support in Carr’s starry eyes are on their way out President Trump returned for a feel-good conclusion: So tonight together we ask that God bless our military We ask that God bless our veterans We ask that God bless our cherished ally the State of Israel Applause And with our flag waving high our people standing tall and our faith forever strong we say our prayer once more: God bless America our home sweet home Applause And that was the end of Trump’s to-date list of “accomplishments” But – as he has demonstrated again and again – every new day brings the possibility of another pro-Israel miracle RELATED READING: Experts: Israeli System Constitutes Apartheid Crime against Humanity Israelis kill dozens of Palestinians in Gaza protesting US Embassy move to Jerusalem UN Report On Israeli Of Impeachment December 14th 2019 Jesus Christ ✝ Why did China unexpectedly announce a delay in its much anticipated 930am presser from the China State Council where it will provide Beijing’s take on the so-called “Phase 1” deal and either send stocks soaring or tumbling According to some it is because Beijing is waiting for the outcome from this morning’s House vote on Trump articles of impeachment which as a reminder was abruptly postponed late on Thursday and carried over to this morning China says briefing delayed a half an hour to 10am ET… … which means it will begin just as the House Judiciary Committee is being gaveled in to vote on articles of impeachment — Kayla Tausche kaylatausche December 13 2019 As NBC reports the House Judiciary Committee is nearing a historic vote on Friday morning on two articles of impeachment against President Trump one on the abuse of power and the other on obstruction of Congress The committee will resume its meeting from last night at 10 am ET The votes come after the committee spent 14 hours on Thursday debating the articles and debating amendments offered by Republicans that sought to change the resolution Lawmakers had expected to cast votes on the measures at the end of the night but Chairman Jerry Nadler D-NY abruptly recessed the markup after 11 pm ET catching Republicans off-guard who expressed outrage at the surprise move Instead Nadler said that the committee would vote on Friday morning in an effort to give lawmakers time overnight to contemplate how they plan to vote on such an important measure Democrats on the committee also explained on Twitter that the vote was so significant that it should take place during daylight hours when more people are likely to be watching “A vote on Articles of Impeachment is one of the most consequential and historic votes any member will cast It should only take place in the light of day — not at 11:30 at night” Rep Ted Deutch D-Fla tweeted It is unclear just when that
